You generally dont clean hepa filters .. you replace them .. temporarily you can tap them on the driveway to loosen up the big particles .. but the filter normally is replaced ... there are some filters that are washable in hot soapy water .. but hepa filters are normally not ..

SOURCE: Hoover Z-400 - Hepa Filter

These filters should be changed at least once a year, they get clogged up and won't clean out. So I would try a new filter and go from there, make sure there are no clogs in the hose and down below where the dirt inlet is.

SOURCE: HEPA Filter

I just fixed my HEPA filter not rotating!!

It involves taking apart the vacuum HEPA area. All screws are the same size. There are a LOT of 'em. Really straightforward putting it back together too.

ok, once you take the HEPA canister area off the vacuum, careful with the wires! Unplug them from the controller board. You open up the HEPA chamber by removing more screws until you see where the motor that turns the filter is mounted on the side. Remove motor from the green chamber. Note where the washer goes. Once the motor is off, you'll see that the center hub that drives the HEPA filter is rounded out. What I did was jam little bits of aluminum from a pop can into the space between the circle and the square to force the walls back to square. I started by folding a little piece of aluminum over and over so it was about three layers thick. Jammed that in. That wasn't quite enough thickness so I shoved another piece with it. If you can find something that is about 4 times the thickness of a pop can aluminum, that'd probably work too. Slight wedge shape on the tip would help. Any sort of tiny shim.

To test your work, just put a couple of holder screws into the HEPA cannister housing, plug in the cover/switch, plug in the HEPA moter. Turn it on for a few seconds to make sure the filter turns. Then you can add more thickness to the hub or put things back together.

SOURCE: Hepa filter stopped on Hoover Windtunnel 2 Model #U8361-900

This has a simple solution IF you have a air compressor with a high pressure nozzle. Outside the house, first remove the Dust bin completely and lay the unit down with the dust bin area up. now start blowing the nozzle at the hepa filter, Alot of dust will come out. Now start to rotate the filter while blowing the dust out. The filter will move one way easier, When there is no more dust reinstall the dustbin and check the suction and the rotation of the filter.

SOURCE: Does my Dyson Animal vacuum have a hepa filter?

The HEPA filter is not a cleanable item. The pre-motor filter is the washable one.

Throws dust all over. Missing hepa filter. Is that the problem?

Make sure the dirt canister seals are clean and tight. Commonly, they get caked with dust over time and don't seal well.

The HEPA filter could be part of it, but the vacuum shouldn't make a cloud of dust without it (the HEPA filter) in place. The HEPA filter removes particles that are microns in size; we're talking dust mites, smoke, pet dander, etc. You may have a dirty or missing filter before the HEPA.

1. Press on the tab located on the side of the filter cover to remove.

How do you get the clear plastic housing off to replace Hepa Filter on a Dyson DC 18 ?

Don't take the clear plastic housing off. The lower hepa filter is not meant to be cleaned, only the top filter needs to be cleaned, every three months. I just talked to the Dyson rep about the same issue.

Cleaning filter on the Dyson Slim

You don't have to clean the HEPA filter (underneath the canister in that clear part) - if you break that clear part you will cause damage to the machine and it won't **** anymore as the air will escape. There is no need to remove it or replace it, it is a lifetime filter. You only have to clean the blue filter that is inside the top of the canister/dirt bin.

My hoover wind tunnel vaccum has a hepa filter that is supposed to be self cleaning but continues to plug up. it is not easy to get to and takes forever to clean it out so the suction is strong again.
