The grey pre-filter catch broke and we ordered a

I just successfully completed this replacement on a DC33 (the prefilter catch is blue on this model.) Not sure how different the assembly is from the DC07 but thought I would post: If you turn the vacuum over there are two screws that loosen the exhaust pipe--one you can see and one up a small shaft (which also loosens the cowling just under the cyclonic assembly.) Both will require a driver or allen-style wrench with a medium-sized star head. Remove both and you will be able to take off the exhaust pipe. You'll need to pull back the aforementioned cowling a bit as you do this. Once the exhaust pipe is off you will be able to see the bottom of the prefilter catch. You'll notice five tiny bays--if you shine a flashlight through you'll see that between bays 2 and 3 there is a small catch (you can note it at the bottom of your replacement prefilter catch as well.) Shove two extra small screw drivers (like the size you get in eyeglass repair kits) into bays 2 & 3, then gently press down on the driver handles to release the catch. A little pushing at the same time will remove your broken prefilter catch. DON'T INSTALL YOUR NEW CATCH YET! Otherwise, like me, you'll have to immediately remove it to reinstall the exhaust pipe :) This was the most time consuming part of the whole operation, as you kind of have to fenangle it a bit to get it back on. Be patient and don't forget to pull the cowling back again while you're doing this. Once it's back on, realign the cowling at the top of the assembly and replace the screws. Then you can turn the vacuum upright again to easily snap in your new prefilter catch.

How do you replace the pre filter catch on a dc07

The pre filter retaining clip is easy to fit, but hard to get the old one out. This is the easy way to do it:-
Turn the machine over, where the bottom of the clip should be is a plate blocking access, it is held in place by a torex headed screw. DO NOT remove this. Instead drill about an 8mm hole through the plastic plate, roughly in the middle level with the large 'A'. This will give you access to the bottom of the clip. Put a flat blade scewdriver through your new access hole and push out the broken clip. It should spring out with a couple of knocks with the palm of your hand. Turn the machine upright and push in the new clip. The hole is not seen and as long as it is a neat job, does not affect the strength of the plate.
Cheers Malc.

Clogged filter

I found that the rubber seal on the bottom of my cyclone is not properly seated to the bottom of canister, I guessed when I removed the clear canister bin completely from cyclone unit for cleaning, I put the cyclone down on the floor and rubber seal accidentally move upward just a little. this creates a small gap on the bottom when I reassembled it, (since seal is up from it original position a little). I pulled rubber seal down to its original position, you will notice that there should not be a gap on the bottom at all, this way you do not have to clean or should not have to clean the filter but once a month or even less.

Vacuum cleaner won't pick up

There are a couple of reasons you could be having this issue. First, I would first suggest checking your brushroll and removing any hair or fibers wrapped around it. Second, check airflow and filters. remove hoses and rid them of any debris that may be trapped inside. Also, vacuum bags that are more than half way full will cause your machines suction to dramatically reduce. Thirdly, check to see if your machine is on the right setting. Some machines have a bare floor and carpet setting. Using the wrong setting will keep your vacuum from properly doing its job. Lastly, it may be a motor issue. If this is the case, I would suggest consulting with your local technician.

Rubber strip on sole plate?

Hello, There could be a few things that would cause your Dyson to have no suction. I will give you detailed step by step instructions along with pictures on how you can diagnose this. Possible Problem #1. The first problem is extremely common. In fact, we probably see between 2-3 of these problems every week. It mostly happens after people take the bottom plate off the vacuum in order to cleanicon1.png the roller brush. What happens is when they reinstall the bottom plate, they put it on on incorrectly. It's actually very easy to do. When the bottom plate (soleplate) is installed wrong, there will be a gap between the bottom plate, and the agitator housing, or the purple tray the roller brush sits in. This will cause the soleplate to be a few inches higher off the ground then it should be, preventing the brushes from even hitting the carpet. This makes it seem to the user that vacuum has lost suction power because without the brushes hitting the carpet, the machine will not pick up very well on floors, but when they use the attachment hose there's plenty of suction power. Here's a picture of the WRONG way to install the bottom plate. Notice the gap in between the two housings: 9739790.jpg Here's another picture, that is the RIGHT way to install the soleplate: 8b953d0.jpg I would say probably 6 times out of 10 this is the problem with the customers machine. If you checked the soleplate and it is installed correctly, move on to the second possible problem. Possible Problem # 2. Turn the vacuum cleaner upside down so the brush roller is facing upwards. I found the easiest way to work on it is to put it on a counter top or work bench. On the left hand side behind the roller brush you should see a flexible transparent hose that goes from the motor to the agitator housing. This hose actually has a lot of strain on it when the vacuum cleaner is in the reclined position. When the first few series of Dyson DC07 models came out, they didn't make this hose long enough, so when the vacuum was in the reclined position, it would put too much stress on the hose, and cause the hose to actually crack, usually right where the end of the hose that goes into the agitator housing. Examine your hose and see if you have any visible cracks in this hose. If you need to you may just remove the entire hose assembly by pulling on it. It will easily come right out of the machine so you can inspect it better. Here's a picture of where the hose usually cracks: 54cb5e5.jpg This would also explain why the vacuum works fine when using the attachments, but not on the floors. The attachment hose uses a different suction channel, and when the machine is in the upright position, no suction goes through this hose. If you do find a crack in this hose, the this hose needs to be replaced. Here's a direct link to that hose on our GoVacuum website. Dyson DC-07 & DC-14 Upright Replacement Internal Hose Part # 904219 Possible Problem #3. I would suspect that this may not be the problem, but if neither of the solutions above worked, then try this one. Dyson's in general are prone to clogging. There are a few clog ports throughout the vacuum cleaner that were added there due to Dyson prototypes becoming clogged at these points. Here are pictures of how and where to check for these clogs. Simply remove the suction port covers at both of these locations: 8b33cd4.jpg be63721.jpg Possible Problem #4. If none of the above solutions worked for you, try this last one. The Dyson DC07 models use a clutch mechanism that stops the roller brush from spinning when changed from carpet mode to bare floor mode. This clutch mechanism is a notorious problem with all Dyson models, in fact they were such a problem that Dyson had to redesign the DC07 model to a non-clutch system. Even if yours is one of the newer ones that don't use a clutch, yours still has a belt inside. You can tell if your model uses a clutch or not by the shape of the roller brush. If your brush is a perfect cylinder shape, yours does NOT have a clutch. To check and see if the clutch or the belt have gone bad, first release the handle on the vacuum as if you were vacuuming carpets. Make sure the machine is set to carpet mode. Now while the handle has been released, turn the machine upside down and see if the brushes are spinning. If the brushes are spinning then turn the vacuum right side up and put the brushes on the floor. Can you still hear the brushes spinning when they are hitting the carpet? If yes, then this is not the problem. If the brushes however are NOT spinning, this indicates either your brush roll, clutch, or belt have gone bad. ..

Dyson Dco7 animal not picking up from floor.

I would check the "U" shape tube under wand that goes under body of machine. There is a button to release it. I would also check to make sure that your brushes are spinning properly. When you tip the vacuum back the brushes engage. Carefully place your hand on the brushes to see if they stop. If they do then your belt is stretched and you need to replace the clutch assembly. That part is not an easy fix. You can also check the tube that leads from the bottom plate to the housing. It will pop off at the housing with little pressure. Those are the most common places to check. Good luck

My dyson will not pick up but has suction when using hose only

I have had Dyson All Floors model,( the one with the clutch adjustment to allow transition from carpet to hard floor) for a number of years. Recently pick up from carpet particularly poor. Went through all the solutions as recommended on Dyson website. No blockages, no broken sole plate, bristles (should be around 7mm to 8mm long) protruding ok from soleplate ( these can wear slightly over time but not usually the problem), belt not broken nor slipping. Filters cleaned/ replaced, but still poor pickup. Checking for strength of suction, as recommended by Dyson, both at top of hose and at bottom right inlet revealed no problem there. It turned out the clear inlet hose coming from the soleplate to the underside of the machine was the problem from two viewpoints. Firstly, as can be expected, the clear hose can develop splits after a number of years due to wear and tear. The other, not so obvious, problem is that the hose is also a form of straight spring which is designed to be compressed to a certain degree to an S shape when the machine is in the upright position. Upon pulling the handle back, whilst pushing on the footrest at the bottom results in pressure from the hose/spring being applied to the rear of the sole plate, pushing it on to the carpet. Thereafter the suction takes over, keeping the soleplate firmly fixed to the carpet. The existing hose on my machine had settled in to an S shape over the several years I have had the machine, thereby not pushing firmly enough the rear of the soleplate on to the carpet ( I noticed a significant gap at the rear whilst using the machine). For the couple of splits I had effected a temporary repair using a couple of very narrow strips of Gaffa tape, whilst awaiting the new hose/spring, but only a marginal' if any, improvement. Upon receiving and attaching the new hose/spring the solepate was properly pressed onto the surface of the carpet and pickup was like new.

Brush bar is scratching hardwood floors. It seems too low!

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial. There are a number of reasons why your brush roller is not working properly. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance. First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing. While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all. Dyson Animal-suction loss

Had the same problem twice and washed the filter to no avail. Called Dyson to troubleshoot, and in one minute they had me removing the purple plastic noodle shaped piece towards the bottom on the side (the next time it was the silver noodle on the opposite side). Inside was a bent pen and tons of debris wrapped around it that slowed the suction. Poked the debris out, and it worked perfectly.
