I was using 80 GB IDE hard disk and was working fine. Lately I want to update with another 250 GB SATA hard disk but the mother board is not detecting it. I have even updates the bios with 1A version. Please suggest.
Hi abhinav13, please disconnect you're IDE. (do not remove it).
You're board only supports SATA 1.0 which is 1.5BG & not the SATA II at 3.0GB. Knowing that you may need to use the jumper to set the drive to 1.5GB. Once you are sure the drive is set correctly than hook it into the PC. If after disconnecting the IDE & SATA drive is shown in the bios. Set the jumper on you're IDE to function as a slave drive.
Enter the bios again. If you do not find the SATA drive listed than your onboard SATA controller is defective. You can not fix that.
So hate giving out bad news.

I verified that you have the most recent drivers for your board. Like Mike said, your board can only support a 1.5GBps transfer rate. Most SATA drives -should- be backwards compatible. If you can give me the specifics on your particular hard drive, it may provide a bit more insight.
Generally, though, the back of the drive will be the same. You will need to take a jumper, and assign it to the back of your hard drive according to this diagram.
You'll need to disconnect any other drives that are connected to your machine, including the other hard drive and any CD/DVD drives you might have. Connect only the SATA drive, and then boot the system. See if your BIOS sees it.
If your BIOS allows, check to see which channel is assigned to which port. (i.e. IDE 1 is assigned channel 1, SATA 1 and SATA 2 make up channel 2...). If you see where the hard drives are supposed to be appearing, try to make it manually "see" the drive.
If you still need further assistance, I've got some more information that I can give to you. Try these first to see if they help you.

My motherboard is K8MM-V with bios 7142-1A(latest). In the bios the option On Chip SATA is enabled and DMA Access is allowed. RAID option is also enabled. I would really appreciate if you shared some solution other than Mike has discussed.

Hi, I have recently purchased a Seagate 250GB SATA Hard disk. I was able to successfully install the hard disk,I USED to use 80GB IDE Hard disk which i upgraded with 250 GB SATA HDDbut not able to detect the new one if i use as slave or Master HDD also,pls suggest me how to resolve this issue on this mother board -----

If you can post the model number of the board you are using, we could give you some more information. Generally, though, older boards can't see drives larger than 137GB without further updates to the BIOS.
You say you are wanting to use a SATA hard drive now, have you made sure that your SATA controller is enabled in your BIOS?
