Typically the master/slave setting is done with jumpers on the back of the drive. Look at the connection at the back and look for markings for Master and Slave. If you have the manual, that will tell you too.

Cant get burner to reconised on pc

Since this is an IDE drive, please check the Master/Slave/Cable Select jumpers, if you've connected the drive in the same cable of your hard drive, you should check its jumper settings, if hard drive is set as Master, the DVD writer it should be as Slave, if the hard disk jumper is set to Cable Select (CS), the DVD should be in the same way too. After this check if DVD drive is identified correctly in BIOS, it's a good idea to set drive detection as Auto, if this all is OK, check its driver in Windows, it must be appear as a DVD-RW drive.

HP a1250Ncomputer wont boot up.

OK, ONE DVD MUST be set as MASTER and ONE as SLAVE. The master MUST be on the "End" of the cable, the SLAVE, on the other. First try with ONE drive, and if you get it working, swap them out too at first, then after establishing that it works OK with just One, the MASTER, then introduce the SLAVE. Do Not forget to RE-JUMPER between swap outs.

I would like to make this a slave so that my 500 GB PATA HardDrive will be the master as that has my operating system and the Plextor PX-716A drive will be the slave?

You need to configure the jumper at the back of the drive as shown in the following picture

8149bb0.gif

Configure the CD/DVD drive as slave, configure the hard drive as Master.

Plextor px-708a will not recognize disks. Just removed a second DVD drive from the system and jumpered px-708a as MASTER. The system recognizes the drive; it just will not read.

as you've changed the configuration of the drive from slave to master you need to go into the bois and change the settings for the drive so that it reads the px as master cd drive

945GCT-M/1333 recognize Primary IDE Master as IDE 3 Master

Hello. Some motherboards set SATA1 as IDE primary master, for compatibility. Try connect the DVD RW to SATA2 or SATA3 Port.

Sony CRX300E CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo - DVD doesn't read

Hi,
do you have software/program that supports DVD.
Try a different DVD/Movie/Disk or alternative.
Also install a program, such as Nero which will give you physical characteristics of the drive.
Finally go to device manager, and remove or uninstall the device, reboot the computer and setup again. This can sometimes remedy the problem.
ensure that the drive is set as Master/Slave. if on the same Bus/IDE channel as a hard-drive. set as master/slave opposite to what the hard-drive is setup as.
Hope this helps.

Intel Motherboard DG 965RY ATA Problem

How are the driver jumpered and attached?

If they are both on the same cable:
- If they are both set to 'cable select' then try setting the drive at the end of the cable to 'master' and the drive in the middle of the cable to 'slave'

-If the drives are already configured master/slave, but slave is the last drive on the cable, then reverse the setup so that the master is at the end of the cable.

-If both are already set correctly to master/slave with the master at the end of the cable, try setting both drives to 'cable select'
