I've been using an HP F4100 printer at our office for almost 2 years which is connected to another computer, using wireless network connection. As far as I can remember, I installed the driver on my laptop prior to adding the printer via the "Add a Printer" wizard. After installation and upon using the wizard which automatically detects the network printer, I was already able to start printing in wireless mode. Hope this works for you too. =)
I was also having the same problem with my hp laptop. i called hp tech support at toll free number- 1-800-585-2494 and they have fixed my problem instantly. for more information you can visit : HP Customer service . hope this will help you better.

SOURCE: lost my disk how do i install my hp deskjet F4100
A few days ago my HP Deskjet, 4100 Series, All In One printer just stopped working in the middle of printing. I got a new power cord/power pack and now the light comes on but there is no response when I try to print. It is as if the machine is not even turned on.
