Hi, my computer sounds like it boots up fine but nothing is on the screen. its just blank. i have tried typing and moving the mouse to no avail. any suggestions?
If the screen is blank, check your hardware ram that either it is properly connected or not.check ur display adopter either properly connected or support ur pc or not.
You can disconnect the VGA cable of the monitor but keep it powered on, if you get a display on the screen like "Check input signal or Check video cable" then monitor is fine.
If you are using a Dedicated video card in your pc then disconnect it and try using the on board graphics port and see if its working.

Try to check the cord to the unit or to the video adaptor it might be unplug or not place it properly, and if you are using a pci-e video card, remove it and use the integrate video card or the on-broard video card. and if noting hapen, try to used another monitor.
It is possible that the video hardware on your computer has gone bad but you will need to verify that is the case. The first thing you should do is verify that the monitor is working. Try hooking up another computer to the monitor to make sure that it is working properly. Then verify that the VGA cable is fully seated into the connector and the screws that hold the connector on are tight. If you have a spare cable to use for a test then try it just to verify that the cable is not bad. Then you will need to open the computer up and identify if the computer has a video card installed or if the video is on-board(built-in to motherboard). If it has a video card then you can try removing the card and installing it into a different computer and testing it. Or install a card from another computer to test the mother board. If the card tests bad then replace it. If you install a working video card into the computer and it does not work it could be a defective motherboard. If the video is built-in the try adding a video card to the board if there is a slot available(AGP,PCI-e). If that works then it is just the built-in video if not could still be a motherboard issue. Some other tips also. Sometimes defective hardware can cause this problem. A bad cd-rom drive can cause a computer to hang-up like you are describing. You will need to dis-connect one hardware component at a time and try turning the computer on to verify if that component is the problem. If the computer starts up after dis-connecting a compenent then that component is the cause and will need to be replaced. A faulty power supply could also possibly be the issue.
If the screen is blank, since you press the power button then you can try to use another monitor to see the functionality.
