Dell 1720dn Laser Printer Logo
Posted on Dec 01, 2009

My Dell 1720 printer stops printing a multi-page document and starts flashing the light to indicate "remove output" as if there were a ton of printed pages when there are only a few. When I push the little plastic flap on the right hand side, after a few seconds it will resume printing, but this gets very annoying when I have to manually push the flap down every 6-8 pages on a large document.

This printer is lost. Throw it in the bin and buy a new one. It'll be cheaper than repair.

  • Anonymous Oct 29, 2011

This printer is a real piece of junk! I used to repair these units several years ago and they are really manufactured by Lexmark in Ky. These were some of the worst models i ever had to service. The little pick roller tires on the bottom were mandatory replacement when i started to service these. They have problems with sensors failing and clutches failing, all of which cause paper jams. Yeah, throw the damned thing away and think of buying a good H.P. or a Canon. Take it from someone that is still servicing printers for a living.

The yellow light on the front keeps flashing and it wont print

It helps SO much when you include the Model number of the printer you are asking about. If it happens to be a Dell 1720 then simply push the tab down located at the top right of the output bin. that Tab sticks open can cause the light to flash.

I have a Dell 1720 printer and a light is flashing to indicate that I need to remove the output, and nothing I do makes the light stop flashing so I cannot print anything.

On the top where the paper comes out is a sensor. There is a flap with an arm attached that passes thru a photo-sensor. make sure the flap is not stuck in the up position and make sure the little arm is not broke off. You will need look very closely

I'm having problems with my 1720 Dell printer...the load paper light comes on after one page printing out however I can occassional get it to print if I cancel the job and put paper in the manual feeder...

it sounds like your driver is set to print to the manual feeder OR set to a different paper size (like legal) Check your driver settings under printers in the control panel. (it'll be along the lines of "paper type" or "tray settings" under printing prefrences. Just as a heads up, it could also be the software causing the issue. MS word tends to hijack settings and create problems as well.

You need to visit the Printer in Control Panel - Printers and double click on the 1720 icon and go through the setup tabs and select Duplex Printing. Printer prints first page with strange nonsensical characters

I would move the printer to another computer. See if the problem follows. I have seen the issue a few times with issues in normal.dot but also in other office applications.

Problem I'm fighting with on my 1720 is its printing extra pages between pages. basically print a 5 page document and get an 8/9 page final with the extra blank pages. Think its a user error but could be machine related. going to try it on another PC and see what happens.
