I am having trouble with input connectivity such that the tv receives weak or no signal. I do not believe that there is a problem with the input wiring, nor is it a problem referencing sources. What can I do? What is the likely cause of this malfunction?

This happens because of the color decoder in the TV. A TV color decoder has a switch that makes the TV image black and white when the received signal does not have sufficient power. Your TV color decoder switch remains in the black and white position (the TV receives weak signal or the TV color decoder is damaged).


Replace the TV antenna, try an antenna amplifier or a digital receiver before the TV.

This feature is pretty reliable and the lack of channels may be due to the lack of signal to the set.

You must have either an antenna, a cable from a cable service or a satellite receiver connected for the set to find any channels.

The connections bad.... try rewiring the one for signal 2 or if its making a good connection... look for a weak spot in wire... that helped me when i couldn't figure out wiring

You are doing nothing wrong at all. It's just that as you say it has no phono input. Which means the sockets you have will NOT amplify the signal. So you need to buy a magnetic cartridge pre-amp and once connected to the aux the weak signal will be at the normal level.

For OTA or CATV signals, you need to daisy chain the coax from the source (antenna for OTA) to the coax input on DVD recorder and then the coax out to the coax input of the TV. If you have a set-top cable box with an incoming CATV signal, it should be connected between the DVD recorder and the TV.

The unit can tune in and record 480i (SD) ATSC (OTA digital), NTSC (OTA analog), analog CATV and digital CATV channels.

A satellite receiver or a non-CATV cable box should get the incoming signal first and then have their composite video output (A/V) connected to the DVD recorder composite video input and then their coax (RF) output (if present) gets connected to the TV. For these, you would record from the IN1 or IN2 (press Select Input) instead of selecting a channel. Then connect the composite video out on the recorder to the TV's composite video in.

Digital signals are either enough to tune in or give no signal. So check that your antenna is correctly oriented for OTA.

Separately, you can connect the video signal when playing DVDs via composite (good signal) out and component out (better signal) out to the TV's matching input. For the component video, the sound is carried on a separate cable. Then set the TV to the input source.

In the case of wanting to watch a VHS tape while taping to a DVD, do not use the Component video source, set the TV to Input 1 (composite).

Is the dynex tv unit installed inside the ASUS desktop computer?
The TV receiver needs an antenna/aerial connected to the TV receiver to receive TV signals, without it you will get no or weak signal.
Have you connected an antenna/aerial to the Dynex TV unit?

You need to use a receiver and connect the units to the receiver input, Then connect the receiver output to your television's input circuit. This should allow to switch inputs to the television. This can also be done with a switching box that allows several input and output. This unit should be hooked up in the same manner with the outputs to the switch box inputs and the switch box out to the television's input circuit. the difference between the two methods is the receiver has a preamplifier that will increase weak signal levels. The switch box is a passive device and usually will not amplified the signal to the input device. You can buy amplified switch boxes if you need them. Hope this helps you with your problem.

A lot of the " auto channel scan " etc. need a certain signal strength. you could have too meny tvs,equipment or anything connected to the "signal giver" that is sucking the signal strength.Not just turn off ALL connections to signal but disconnect the antenna 'input' to any equipment (sometimes people connect cable wires to radio receivers for stronger & better signals.)
You could have a open circuit to the input of the equipment in trouble.If you know how to get inside (with out killing yourself) connect an antenna directly to the end of the line of the intanna input INSIDE of the TV. if the signal comes in and the tv 'autoscans' and locks channels, then you have a open wire leading into the circuit.

You have probably done this, but have you changed the video settings in the setup menu to have the tv using HDMI out? I believe it is under the first option when the menu comes up.
