ATAPI DVD+RW Burning Problem

In 'My Computer' it reads the DVD burner as 'DVD/CD-RW Drive (E:)'. But when I put a blank DVD+R disc into the drive, in 'My Computer', it changes to 'CD Drive (E:)', and then when I try to burn a movie clip to it, the program says I do not have a DVD burner. Why?

Are you saying it is not a DVD RW? It is DVD and CD rewrittable. Have burned to DVD (about a year ago), have a second one that someone else has burned to DVDs many times. The user guide that says you can record to DVD, also googled it on the internet which says it is DVD rewritable. In the system manager it says 'ATAPI DVD+RW 8X4X12'.

I put in a dvd/rw disc and it will not read it. in My Computer it comes up as a blank disc (cd)

Make sure the discs you are using are compatible with your drive. Some drives will burn dvd - r discs but not dvd + r discs. Hope this helps.

My combo DVD drive will burn a CD, but when I put in a blank DVD it just opens the drawer and says to insert a disc. Windows XP.

If it is in fact a Teac CD-Rewritable W58E CD-RW Burner, this will only burn CDs and not DVDs. If you put in a blank DVD you will get this error. You will need a burner that has DVD burning support.

DRIVERS NEEDED

All optical drives use ATAPI drivers, these drivers are native to Windows. Physically install the DVD player and it will be recognised, depending on what type of CD and DVD burning software you have your drive may not be recognised by them.
OEM burning software will only work with the optical drive it was supplied with, retail burning software should work with any drive.

Burning problem

When you open Nero select copy dvd. Select the dvd-rom as the read drive. Put the dvd to be copied in there. Select the dvd-rw as the write drive and place a blank dvd r or dvd rw in it the select copy.

My dvdrom drive wont let me access the drive

ITs a dvd rom drive. It will not burn blank dvds
in order to burn, it has to cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r/dvd-rw. If a drive cannot write to a blank disc, it will eject it. Rom drives read only (Read Only Memory), Combo drives- burn cd's only read dvd's, and super drives both read and write to cds and dvds.

Not reading dvd r or rw as writable disk

It sounds like you are having issues with all DVD writable disks. From the specs I was able to find online about your DVD writer, DVD+RW discs may not be compatible with the the drive. Make sure you are using DVD-RW (note the minus instead of +). I think you might need to reinstall your DVD drivers. This should solve the issue.

DVD-RW Name Changes When Blank DVD Inserted

p3, Did you try burning the DVD and it failed? You should try upgrading the firmware on DVD drive. http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/Model_Select.aspx?type=ODD+Products&typecode=300400&subtype=DVD+Writer&subtypecode=300405&model=TS-H552U&filetype=FM&language= Or, your just interested why Windows is calling your expensive DVD burner a measley CD Drive? Your Burner is an all-in-one.(I think) It plays(and burns) cd's and dvd's. Whatever program you use to burn has not informed Windows of its true intentions yet...Which is to burn a dvd or a cd. It doesn't know what you are burning until something tells it to. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
