The Wep Key is located in the wireless router settings and will not be found on the network adapter. The network adapter needs the wep or wpa key to connect to the wireless router. You will need to use a computer hooked up directly to the router and enter the router settings menu to find or change the wep or wpa key. Most routers use 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to enter the router menu. When you input the IP address above a screen should come up asking for a username and password. Enter those and that will allow you to get into the router menu. If you do not know the username and password you can reset the router with the reset button and that will restore the default password which is usually no username and password is admin.

The username and password suggestion from Muebe may not be correct if the router is not a Linksys brand (check with the manufacturer of whatever router you actually have).

Can't find my WEP or Passphrase key. Please help!

The WEP or Passphrase encryption key is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the USB wireless card in the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

My Vizio HDtv WIFI shows a good signal from my Linskys router but is "unabke to connect" even though I repeatedly enter the correct pass phrase, what is wrong?

Run the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor by double-clicking this icon 3719-001.jpg at the bottom-right corner of your screen. If you don't see the Wireless Network Monitor icon, click here.

kb_4285-001_en.png Step 2:
Click the Site Survey tab and select the name of your wireless network or SSID, then click Connect. In this example, we used a wireless USB adapter.
NOTE: images may differ depending on the model number of the adapter.
Step 3:
If the software is asking for a WEP key, enter the WEP key on the WEP Key 1 field.
If the software is asking for a WPA-Personal key, enter the WPA key on the Passphrase field

I previously was able to connect to internet and suddenly it no longer will connect- is there anything I can try to troubleshoot this? I am running Windows XP

are you sure you are using the right protocol in aqccordance with the information from your provider.. WEP or WPA-PSK?" and the right number to open the gateway?

If the newtwok drops out, sometimes this information is lost and has to be reinserted. If you uninstall linksys and remove the usb and then reinsert it, does it flash and become discovered?
Also make sure you have set up wireless network in XP

If a wrong protocol is inserted Linksys will often report.. Connected to the Network But internet gateway not found... If you get that message then ewither your protocls are incorrect or you have not set up the network correctly. your ISP should be able to guide you through this by phone support.

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Forgot my wep key. How do I get it?

You can sometimes retrieve it from the router settings, but barring that, there really is no easy way to get it.

Note that I said easy. If your router is indeed using WEP, you can sniff the packets coming off it with sniffers and once you have enough packets, then you *might* be able to decode the WEP key code. This usually doesn't work out very well though.

Is the PIN on the bottom of the router the same as the WEP or WPA?

WEP or WPA are the types of wireless security. If your wireless network is secured then there will be a password on the network that is called as wireless network key or passphrase ( WEP or WPA key ). PIN number is different than WEP or WPA.
To check the wireless network key ( WEP / WPA) you will need to access the router settings page.
On that page , you will find all the settings of the router.

Says i am connected but when i open firefox it says that i have no network connection... the wireless icon also says it is acquiring ip address

if the message aquiring ip address comes in computer then it says that the wireless router is not giving an ip address to your computer.... check if any static ip address is assigned to your wireless connection...if so change to "obtain ip address automatically".... right click on wireless network name> goto properties > authentication tab> uncheck "enable IEE athentication"
now try to connect again, still not restart the computer once...... this will resolve the issue.... still if it is not connected then check for the security settings in the router... if your computer is XP/MAC, it may not recognize WPA security type.... change it to WEP type and try to connect again....

My wireless has a WPA key and Abox is asking

  1. Plug in the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter to one of the USB ports on the back of your Xbox 360.
  2. Turn on your Xbox 360 and navigate to "My Xbox" and then "System Settings."
  3. Go to "Network Settings" and then "Configure Network."
  4. Select the appropriate settings for the wireless network you will be connecting to on the "Basic Settings" tab.
  5. Enter the name of the SSID of the wireless network you will be connecting to. If the SSID is not broadcast, select "Specify Unlisted Network" and enter in the SSID of the network manually.
  6. Enter in the wireless security key (WEP or WPA) so that your Xbox 360 can access the network.
  7. Select "Test Xbox Live Connection" back on the "Network Settings" screen to verify that your Xbox 360 is now connected to the wireless network and ready for use.
Should work for either WEP or WPA

Connects to Access Point but the internet cannot be found

The main reason why you have this error message because your computer is not getting a valid IP address from teh wireless network, and the reason why its not getting a valid IP address is the wireless security or sometimes called WEP/WPA kay are not type in to the correct place, If you have a WEP enable on your wireless network you will have two option on the Linksys WLAN monitor where you can type in teh security key, you will see two boxes there when you try to connect to the secured network one says Passohrase and one says WEP key1 and if yuo have a wireless key that has a total of 10 or 26 key character you need to type that on the WEP key1 box leave the passphrase blank...But if it still didn't work you can contact this number for help 1-877-787-8749....
