Open the door and there will be a small piece of plastic that can be pushed into and out of the door jamb. You will need to replace that because it is not telling the computer the door is shut.

if the door is not actually adjar, then the senser that says it is needs attention. on mine there were these silver discs in the door jam that needed cleaning every so often (sliding door)
If you remove the interior light fuse just to turn it off and to turn off the dinging noise then for sure this will drive you nuts, That fuse is part of the shift interlock, what this mean you wont be able to get the car out of park. That interior light and ding is part of the GEM module so you have to fix the problem,in the driver door panel part of the door lock assemble is the switch, either you disconnect that switch or you replace the switch.
are you wearing your Seatbelt, are your doors closing all the way hatchback ajar ? i only ask as these would be the Dinging sounds your having chances are you have a bad door pin switch which isnt closin the loop as for your Check engine light being its OBD1 you will have to run a scan tool to see what the codes are that are throwing the Intermintent check engine light but as for the dinging it sounds like a Door pin switch thats gone bad try that 1st ....and this is not a solution but it will be close to it and also scans arent that expensive and it beats throwin Money at a problem that could be dont Guess there are at least 60 known Faults if not more that can Trigger that light to come on ....Goodluck
take and spray wd40 on the latches and open close the door a few times and that should fix the problem that is what was wrong with mine. That took care of problem if that doesnt fix it the senors need to be replaced in the latch
This is usually caused by the switches sticking in the door latches.
Try spraying some WD40 in the latches and open and close the doors a
bunch of times that should take care of it.
The switch that tells the computer that the door is closed is broken or has a loose wire. This causes the computer to think the door is open thus the door ajar and interior light on.Switch should be located on door jam.
