Just inserting a blank disk will not crash a laptop.

Unless purely co-incidental. Something was going wrong and this just happened to be the last thing you did before it crashed.

If the bios is set to boot to the CD drive first before the hard drive.
It will appear non-functional and ask for the operating system disk to be inserted.

Try taking the Blank CD out then rebooting the system without it.
If the Laptop CD drive can be removed. Take it out to remove all doubt and reboot.

Good luck!

Do not worry at all. take out the cd and reboot in safe mode by pressing F8 at bootup. Then you can restore your laptop to an earlier date from Start->All progs->Accessories->System->restore. reboot normal this time.

My Acer aspire one 722 says when i turn it on,"no bootable device- - insert boot disk and press any key.my laptop has no disk reader?

Wow, you're kinda up the creek without a paddle. Never buy a laptop that has no CD Drive, you'll get burned when it crashes.

You need a drive now to insert a system disk or repair disk to get around this problem. Without it your only option will probably be to do a System Recovery which takes your system back to when you first bought it. You'll lose all your data.

I have a toshiba satellite and i am getting a blank screen with a cursor blinking in the top left corner

Try remove everything that attached on your laptop, Flash Disk, Floppy Disk, CD-ROM, or anything, just the laptop only without anything.

If still won't operate, it's the operating system crashed, try reinstall it with new ones, and you must format the Hard Drive during installations

Burning CD

hello,

I gues that your burner is combo and only burn cd-r not DVD-R. Maybe its only a DVD REader and cannot burn to blank DVD. Try to see the Rom Specification of the DEll for more information.

Cd/dvd drive problem

Try with another brand of disk; the Matsushita UJ870 drive of our 5315 burn my Sony CD's but not my Philips CD's (my Compaq V2617LA with an older Matsushita UJ840 drive has burned Phillips CD's in the last two monts)... Remember: CD and DVD lassers are different. I think because of that, i haven't see problems with Sony, Philips and Samsung DVD's... only with CD's...

System crashed

Hi,

well you would have to purchase a operating system from one of your local computer stores to fix that problem. There are other methods but they are very risky and may damage your system so i suggest you purchase the cd and keep it in a safe place after use.

please rate me. thank you.

Problems recording DVD

It sounds to me like you are having driver or software trouble/conflicts with CD/DVD monitoring programs. After booting, look in the lower right hand corner and see if there are any icons like DISK AT ONCE or VIRTUAL DISK MONITOR running. If you have any programs running in the system tray, it is probably that which is causing the problems.

If worse comes to worse, go into CONTROL PANEL, ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS and then remove any program that involves CD or DVD writing, such as ROXIO, NERO, SONIC, any of these. After removal, reboot, and then once everything is up and running try inserting a blank DVD. If it runs correctly (should show a blank disk or ask you what you want to do with a blank disk), then it was a software driver problem. Once fixed, you can either reinstall your old CD/DVD writing management program (like Nero or Roxio), or try a more stable and higher quality alternative (like the excellent, and free, DEEPBURNER), which is less likely to have driver/software problems.

Good luck...
