Overheating is one of the frequent causes of freezing and other errors in your HP Laptops. So, if your laptops keeps freezing then the first and the most important thing that you would have to check is whether your fan is working or not. If your fan is not working then you would have to buy a cooler pad for your HP laptop. The cooler pad which sits under your laptop would prevent it from getting overheated.

I had this problem (hanging on the screen with F10 = ROM based setup) for a while on my HP nc6220 laptop. Was taking several attempts to boot. Replaced the hard drive. Ran virus and malware detection, all clean. Stumbled on to the posting where someone wrote about applying pressure by the touch pad seemed to help. It did. Then the problem gradually got worse. Thought maybe there was something loose. Downloaded the disassembly procedure from hp.com. I found the 2 ground contacts under the touch pad had oxidation on them. Cleaned them with a pencil eraser. Reassembled the laptop and have not hung once. Everything runs faster as well. This is not for the novice, but someone with a little experience should be able to get through the process. Hope this helps someone.
It seems that the hard drive or the memory module is not seated properly and hence after pressing on the area below keyboard it gets released. You can try following things. Remove and reseat the Hard drive. And remove and reseat the Memory. Try to power on the laptop again. If is getting hang again then you may need to do the HDD self test and memory test built into BIOS.
its due to two reason
1,hard disk failure first stage
2,virus
for virus you have to do following steps
1,download spybot from the internet
2,install and scan
3,fix selected problems
Only if you have knowledge on hardware Laptops you understand. The procedure go as follow: Unscrew the motherboard completely. Identify the North-Bridge BGA IC (BGA= ball grid arrays) under the mouse region. Get an SMD Rework Station. Suspend the board on a surface which cannot be affected by heat and held firmly whereby under the North-Bridge BGA IC is opened. Use your SMD Rework Station to generate heat evenly beneath the region North Bridge IC and press gently without being bridged. Mind you 90% risk is involve.
hmmm..that sounds like a motherboard problem about to happen. you have warranty coverage on this unit? also, you may wish to turn over the computer, remove battery, get static off your hands, then remove and reseat the memory cards underneath(most likely behind a small panel with a small phillips head screw).
this problem is hardware related, this problem caused by the chipset "intel 82801 fbm" . if you have an electronics experience,
remove the mother board,
find the chipset intel 82801 fbm
reflow the chipsett by "bga rework station" or "hot air blower"
then refix and check the system
The intel chip that is under the touch pad is the culprit. If you open the laptop by removing the keyboard, you will notice the chip just under the cover. i have tried putting pressure on it with an eraser and got some results.
