I have a Kitchenaid kssc48fts and it won’t turn on and stay running. Initially it starts and runs, both freezer and fridge both start to cool but then the “over temperature” light is on and the cooling stops.

Take the lower panel off the bottom of the refrigerator in back. Turn your refrigerator on and make sure the fan on the condenser coil is turning and check to see how dirty the coil is. If it's going out on over temp, it means you can't expel heat.

Thank you Michael. I will try that.

Clean your condenser coil

  • kaptainappte Mar 31, 2019

Thank you Ron. I will take care if that cleaning.

  • kaptainappte Apr 08, 2019

Cleaned the condensing coil throughly but still will not stay turned on. Discovered the water filter may have never been replaced. Have purchased a new replacement filter. I am suspiciously considering the cpu board. Any comments / advice welcome.

SOURCE: GE PCG23NHMF side by side fridge freezer - stopped cooling

Although this machine is supposed to be frost-free (i.e. automatic defrost), there was a build up of frost. We manually defrosted the machine, then restarted it - the noise has stopped and the freezer and fridge are now working. However, this may be a temporary solution.

SOURCE: refrigerator not cooling

You model if the ARB1950C has a defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment and behind the temperature control panel. Need to see if you can manualy turn the timer clockwise until the compressor stops. During that time of 25 minutes the freezer should be in defrost. I believe your timer needs replaced based on how you explained what is happening. The part number for your timer is 67001036 and can be found at the links below. If it stays longer that 25 minutes then it's sticking in the defrost section of the defrost timer and will need to be replaced. If your refrigerator does not restart after about 25 minutes then slowly turn the timer through the opening in the plastic cover. There may be a plug covering the hole to make the hole not so visible. If you should have problems fell free to let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer is not cool

Check the obvious reasons why fridge is not cooling , these includes stuff like seals and gaskets. ,if you shut the door and the light stays on, it's a sign that the cool air is escaping . There are cracks or rip in the seals. Check the fan, if fan is malfunctioning , this could really lead to fridge not to cool . To check if the fan is still up running, defrost the refrigerator, and if the fan starts normally , then you are in luck but if not, fan will need to be replaced.
Check the actual cooling .
