SOURCE: inserting new drill bit

Assuming that it is this drill:

http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/cgi-bin/schematic.cgi/blackdecker/7144-04_TYPE_4

You will need a chuck key - hopefully you have that with the drill. It's a little t-shaped bar with a cog on one end. You put it into the holes in the chuck (the part at the end which grps the bit) and turn anti-clockwise to open the jaws. Place a bit in the centre and then turn it clockwise to tighten. Tighten the bit using each of the three holes in the chuck and make sure you remove the chuck key before you use the drill - keep it safe!

SOURCE: HOW DO I LOOSEN A KEYLESS CHUCK TO REMOVE A DRILL

Keyless chucks normally have a knurled ring at the base of the chuck that you hold in one hand while turning the large knurled taper with the other. If the chuck has been overtightened, and you cant open like this, try using two stilson wrenches (Pipe wrenches) one on each of these parts. Use a soft cloth in the jaws to avoid damaging the knurling. You can also try some Q20 or similar into the chuck to help lubricate it.

SOURCE: Black and Decker Cordless Drill Chuck stuck in full open position

I'd put penetrating oil in it and tap the chuck with a plastic hammer. That should free it up.

Before the invention of the hammer drill, people face a lot of trouble drilling in the tight spaces. They had to break down the parts in smaller units in order to drill it properly. But, now the time has changed and the users can easily drill on a portable manner. But, one might wonder, what makes the best hammer drill
? The answer is being more and more complicated each year with so many brands on the market.

The market offering is huge and most of the brands are continuously reinventing their products. We have analyzed many different drills from cordless hammer drill to a corded hammer drill, to hammer drill machine to cordless hammer drill drivers. Thus, we have come up with these top picks.

I tried to use my trimmer for the first time this year and it won't start. It beeps and a small puff of smoke came out of the engine

Sounds like it got damp andthe motor brushes a stuck in thir holders take them out and give them a gentle rub with wet and dry paper on all surfaces after drying them gently by putting them on a radiator or similar warm place like an airing cupboard . Also put a roll of wet/dry paper into the brush holder holes so it presses onto the commutator while turning the motor This cleans the commutator If it does not work after replacing the brushes seek help from an appliance expert. Obviously if you can't get to the brushes to start with you need the expert from the start

Panasonic troubleshooting

The brushes of model EY7440 from between building year 2007 and 2009 have brushes what hangs split in the lengt. and have no pressure on the commutator of the ancre, if you have a multimeter and push the trigger (with a 14,4 battery connected) then you must have a voltage on the brushes , if there is no voltage on the brushes the switch could be damaged or you are forget to set the little steel springs in the middle on the brushes so set that they are pushing the brushes on the commutator collectors of the ancre ?

The drill was smoking while in use at the rear of the drill

Hi, these units tend to heat up over extended use. It is possible that your brushes have worn down and need to be replaced. The contact area around the commutator, (where the brushes push against), should be cleaned gently with ultra fine steel wool. Also, the gaps between the contact points of the commutator should be free of any conductive dust left behind by your dying brushes. Since the drill needs to be disassembled in order to do this, check any connections for weakness and any more conductive dust that may be shorting something. good luck.

Hello, I have a dewalt drill cordless 12V. I have taken the casing off and want to know how I want to know how I get to the brushes. It has stopped working and suspect that it is the brushes. I am not...

I fix cordless DeWalt drills every week!Look for two black carbon-like blocks found on either side of the commutator ( the central spindle ) they will each have one wire on the outside end attached to a spade connector so the brush can be easily removed by prying it out from beneath the spring holding the brush against the commutator.  Then the wire can be removed and the new brush installed.    Go online to http://www.toolpartsdirect.com and search for your model dewalt drill. they have an exploded diagram and parts listing for each model drill.  That will identify the brush for you if you have never seen one before.    If the drill was operating intermittently with lots of noise and usually blue sparks coming out, loss of power, increasing intermittant operation it would almost certainly benefit from replacing the brushes.   If it is simply dead, and was ever dropped.  check the battery terminals and the trigger mechanism.  Of course inspect the battery and check inside the drill for loose or broken wires and connections. I hope this is helpful. Good luck!
