Hello - Canon ZR80 - auto shut off

Hi Doug,
You are right in identifying the cause of the pre-mature shut-down of the camera during video recording. Battery saving features (auto-shut down) detect the camera as idle while you are recording. you could do two things to avoid this;
1. A short term practice is to manipulate the camera to stay on by using the zoom button, taking a snap-shot or anything like that from time-to-time, before the 2 minutes is up. This will keep the camera awake long enough for you to record a good length of video.
2. The second and permanent option is to program the camera - just as you mentioned. You can do that by opening the menu and under camera setting , scroll down till you find the auto-power save. Change the time to your preference

Please note: You have to switch off your camera as soon as practicable while the auto-switch-off time is set at a bigger value to conserve the battery. otherwise the battery will be drained quicker than you imagine.

You should be able to press the Auto Off button and it cancels the automatic option. Hold it down and while keeping pressure on the button, pull the power cord from the Wall. keep holding the button and reinsert the Power Cord once again. Lift up and see if it did a Reset.

Friend, Remove whatever you can without using a screwdriver, ie, battery and card etc. Then use your hair dryer on it without heat. Keep blowing air into it for sometime. You can do it in spurts too. Stop and go procedure. Then, reinsert all the items that you removed. Power on and see if you still get the moisture icon. If yes then you need to take it to a repair shop. The circuitry may be faulty.

if it seems to be stumbling when you turn it off but keeps running then you likely have carbon buildup on the valves, pistons or plugs .. the carbon stays hot and keeps the engine running even without spark .. usually if you hit the gas once it cools the hot carbon and the engine quits .. i suspect your f150 is never run fast .. a romp in passing/second gear once in a while usually keeps it clean .. there is special cleaner you can run thru to clean out the carbon .. you can get that an any auto parts store .. make sure the plugs are the correct heat range .. plugs that are designed for oil burning engines stay cleaner but may be too hot .. that can cause the same problem ..

now if your engine runs on smoothly with the key off then i would suspect a problem with the ignition switch or wiring

Just press your on/off button once,then it will set to auto print.If you keep the on /off button press in for a few seconds it will shut down.By pressing it once it switch between auto print on and off.
I agree this is a funny setting on this model.

Check your settings in "Power Options Properties".
Control panel/ power options/ advanced/ under power buttons make sure you have "shut down" when you press the power button on your computer.
I hope I am understanding your problem correctly. If not pls. explain what you mean by and when processing auto config. keeps flashing. Is there a black screen or a windows interface?

then it is shaking while you take the picture

keep the hand steady and use auto mode for clear pictures

unplugged/plugged power cable on monitor. problem went away

If there is NOT a tape in the camcorder it will not not drop into STANDBY but will remain operating as a camera. No it still does it with the AC adapter, Im not even using the battery. It makes no sense to have the auto power off when shooting indoors while using the AC adapter, its just stupid. Don Palomaki June 19th, 2005, 05:59 AM Again, the key point is having a tape in the XL1. After about 5 minuts it goes into Standby mode (not the same as turning the power off with the dial). This is a carryover from pure consumer camcorders - to save battery and reduce damage to tape and head wear from a camcorder left in pause mode for a long time.

Pro users complained, so the XL1s had an option to disable this feature so that only the tape transport (VCR portion) is turned off after 5 minutes, the camera head continues to run. link to above thread
