When you're recording do you see any indication that recording is actually happening, like a blinking icon in the viewfinder?

1. Press the [MENU] button.
2. Select [CARD OPERATIONS].
3. Select [FORMAT]. - [CANCEL] and [EXECUTE] appears.
4. Select [EXECUTE]. - [ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED. FORMAT THIS CARD?], [NO] and [YES] appears.
5. Select [YES] and close the menu. - Formatting starts. - Selecting [NO] brings you back to step 3.

I had the exact same problem, and just by dumb luck, I managed to get the tape compartment to pop open after trying hundreds of things. Maybe this will work for you too...who knows??? What I did was to first remove the battery and AC power to "reset" the camera (I guess). I then put the battery back in place and WHILE HOLDING THE CAMERA IN THE UPRIGHT (AS IF USING THE CAMERA FOR VIDEO) POSITION, I pushed the "Open/Eject" latch. VIOLA!!! Like I said, it may be dumb luck, but I haven't had the problem again. It may be that gravity helped to take the stress off the ejecting mechanism...dunno???? BTW, when I was having the problem, the mechanism would "click" 3 or 4 times while trying to move the tape out. Good luck!!! I hope this helps someone!

Its service manual would include such instructions but I have no access to such. Rather, I can provide links to the user manual. Unfortunately, that user manual does not even mention fuses. You might check with Cannon to see if they will download a service manual to you. Otherwise, here is a manual to a similar Cannon product which does include instructions to fuse removal. Of course, it is unlikely the same fuses are used by both. The same problem exists apparently on the ZR200 which is where villagidit found the solution.

Basically all it involves is thumping on the side opposite the display. I tried the thump once with no effect. I gave it two more thumps and the problem went away. Not really a solution. But it was satisfactory for me to be able to get the camcorder working long enough to transfer all my DV video onto DVDR..

Seems something comes loose in these Canon camcorders (presumably a connector of some sort.) There are 10 votes for this solution on the other thread as of 5/19/2008.

Because if you only connect with USB that's normal.
USB tranfers still photos.
For Video you will require a firewire cable connected to camera and computer.

It could be possible that the tape is in the wrong way or that the tape is the wrong size those are both reasons that it may not be closing

My Canon ZR 200 was electing all cassettes new and old alike. On FIXYA I forum I found a superb solution. That is just SRTIKE at the cassette side of the camera twice. YES I did it and it PERFECTLY OK now.
Can anyone say the actual mechanism behind this fixing?

Hi, connect the cam and PC using 4 pin firewire cable. Switch on the cam. Open Windows Movie Maker and import the video from device.

You can download a user manual here. Your problem, however, does not seem to be related to the camera, but to the SD card. Take the card out and look along the edge for a small 'switch'. This switch will have a 'locked' and an 'unlocked' position. Make sure it is 'unlocked'. If you still get the advisory, try another SD card. (Sometimes those little 'switches' fail.)

If the iris is opening to let light in, that light is not being changed to a picture signal or that picture signal is not going into the camera circuits, What you see in the viewfinder is what is being recorded, Make sure that no cables have been left plugged in to the camera and turn the power on and off several times, I have seen the iris stick when cameras were not used for a while. The iris is inside or behind the lens and closes completely when you turn the camera off, If it is stuck, SOMETIMES it will open with repeated tries of turning it off and on or even removing the battery and putting it back in. And maybe it is just the vibration of opening and closing the battery compartment door or the slight vibrations of pushing the power button repeatedly. If it sticks once, it will stick again. This is not a repair, just a way to get those one time pictures' before.
