German keyboard layout problem

The uses for mapping your keyboard are numerous, but remapping your keyboard's keys is not for the squeamish.
There are numerous software applications to map and remap a keyboard's keys.
The best part is that the software is free and easily downloadable via the Internet.
So, go ahead and swap those unused keys on your keyboard to suit your computing experience, and make your keyboard more effective without fear of damaging your computer

Place your mouse pointer over a key on the visual keyboard. Notice that the key is numbered.
To see what function the key is currently assigned to, allow your mouse pointer to hover over the key.
A pop-up displays what the key is attributed to.
Left-click the mouse pointer on a key you wish to change.
Click on Choose New Remapping from the drop-down menu.
Select Remap Key from the Control area on the interface.
You may also opt to disable or enable the key, and reset the default for this key.

Left-click Apply. Look at the list box at the top-left of the interface, labeled "Remapped keys currently in effect."
Ensure that the keyor keys you selected are listed in this list box.

Fix a mistake by resetting the defaults.
Click on the top button adjacent to the list box you just visited.
Pressing this button will remove all the changes to your keyboard mapping.

When I try to type the ampersand ( @ ) I get the quotation ( " ) sign instead

PROBLEM: Some keyboard characters type incorrectly and are swapped. Most notably the Ampersand - @ and the Quote sign - "

RESOLUTION: The wrong country selection for the keyboard layout has been selected. An ENGLISH - UK keyboard with an ENGLISH - USA keyboard type selected or the reverse.

Go to CONTROL PANEL, REGIONAL AND LANGUAGE settings and select the correct keyboard for your system's country of origin.

MY ACER A0A150 IS CONFUSED. WHEN I WANT TO TYPE " IT DISPLAYS @ .AND VICE VERSA. WHEN I TYPE THE POUND SIGN I GET # .ALSO WHEN I TYPE # I GET \ .I HAVE TRIED TO FIND OUT HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM...

Hey,

it seems your keyboard is set to another language to change this setting. press start -> then control panel -> then Classic view (on the left side panel) -> now on the right find Regional and language options -> then select Keyboards and languages ( might be a little diffrent ) -> Change language or keyboards

Then finaly you should get text services and input languages (this might be diffrent since im using windows vista)

Now you need to set your default input language to the one you want to use, for example English or german for example. Click apply and OK. You can also click on the extra languages that you might see there that you don't need and then click on remove to remove them from the list.

Close the window with OK.

Problem should be solved, if not restart and make sure your correct language is set as default, and delete the extra ones if the problem persists.

Thanks and good luck.
