If you have x divided by fraction y/z, then you'll just do this:
x times z divided by y.
For instance, if you want to divide six cups by 2/3 cup (i.e., how many 2/3 cups can I get out of six cups of flour?), 6 * 3 / 2 = 18.
To divide fractions proceed as you usually do with any number. Just make sure to enclose each fraction in parentheses. You may want to remember a simple rule: To divide a fraction by another, multiply the first one by the reciprocal of the other:
(a/b)/(c/d)=(ad/bc)

you can also go press the 'mode' button, and go down until you're at 'Exact/Approx' and choose '3: Approximate'

Are you using a ti-89? If so, check your mode settings and change Exact to Approximate.

Hello,
To convert fractions to decimals or decimals to fractions, you use the [S<->D] key. Each time you press the key the result is displayed in the other format.
Alternatively, If you multiply or divide two integer numbers put a decimal mark at the end of one of the numbers (any one). The result will be displayed in decimal format.
Hope it helps.
