Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Maintaining your unit's filter clean and clog-free is crucial in keeping your unit working properly. Your Dyson DC39 has a washable and reusable pre-filter, part number 923413-01.

Washable filters are recommended to be washed after every 1 or 2 uses and replaced every 3 to 6 months, depending on the use of your unit.

First, make sure your unit is 'off' and unplugged. Remove the dust bin by pushing the button next to your unit's handle and remove the filter from the bin. Wash your filter under running lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Allow your filter to air dry for 24 hours before placing it back into your unit. Do not use any soaps or detergents and only dry your filter naturally. Placing your unit in a dishwasher and/or dryer may damage the filter.

Having a spare filter is a great idea to have while washing the unit's filter.

You can purchase direct your replacement filters from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Power pushing reset

Hi Paula, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC39 is engineered to shut itself down for protection if it starts to overheat. This will usually be due to a blockage, and the filter may also need a wash.

You should find the machine will reset itself after it's had at least three hours to cool down. But to prevent any damage to your vacuum, please give the filter a wash, and check for any blockages.

To check for any blockages in the floor tool, wand, hose or hose inlet, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc39/dc39-animal/diagnosis-root-menu/performance-flo-extension-tube-suction-check-dc39

DC39's filter should be washed once every three months in normal use, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow up to 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further advice after you've given this a try please call our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

WHEN EVER I PLACE THE SPINNER ON THE VACUUM IT STOPS SPINNING

Hi Linda,

I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DC39 brush bar. The brush bar on your machine is air driven. Generally, if the brush bar stops rotating it is due to an obstruction that is preventing air flow. Please visit the appropriate link below for step by step instructions on locating and removing a blockage from your machine.

US:

http://www.dyson.com/support/dc39/dc39-animal/diagnosis-root-menu/performance-flo-extension-tube-suction-check-dc39

UK:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc39/dc39-multi-floor/machine-is-not-working/dc39-check-extension-tube

We also recommend inspecting the brush bar to ensure it is free of any debris and washing your filters. If for any reason the recommended trouble shooting does not fully resolve the problem please contact our Helpline to speak with an expert.

US - 1-866-693-9766 or UK - 0800 298 0298

Best wishes,

Brush keeps shutting off . DC39 Animal Canister.

The belt that turns the rotating brush is loose. Make sure it is on correctly or replace with a (new) tighter belt. This will require you to unscrew a few screws on the bottom & remove the cover. Then remove the roller.

Turbo head on DC39 animal will not spin. I have removed any hair etc caught around the brush but still no spinning..

I have the same problem with my DC39 Animal's brush bar. Im on my 3rd one in 9 months of ownership. The DC39 brush bar is driven pneumatically (there is no electric motor in the brush head) and switched on and off via a suction activated pneumatic ratchet within the brush head. The moving components are actuated by bellows. Ive found that the glue holding the bellows fails stopping the ratchet working intermittently at first and then completely as the bellows comes away completely. At first you can help the ratchet by tapping the brush head - the red ratchet ring can be seen to click round. This, in my opinion, is an inherent weakness of the DC39 design and cannot be easily repaired. The only solution is a new brush head. Luckily Ive got a 5 year warranty and at the current rate I will have got through about 20 brush heads !
