I had a problem getting the ice bin back into my 1990 model side-by-side Sears/Whirlpool refrigerator. Several hours later I notice that everything was getting warm and the ice was defrosting. The compressor and fan came on when I turned the freeze control knob to the coldest position. 1 hour later the freezer was 10 degrees. I then turned the control knob to almost "A". Several hours later the temperature was back up to sixty in the freezer.

You would need to install whats called an Ice Door Kit made for whirlpool refrigerators. I am making an assumption that yours is a Whirlpool made Kenmore, your model number starts with 106. This is not an easy repair, you have to modify the door to install the kit, you might want to call Sears to fix it. If you want to take a chance and fix it yourself I can get you the part number.

Either the freezer temperature is too high or the internal thermostat inside the ice maker is faulty.
The freezer temp must be 5 degrees or less for the ice maker to work correctly.
If the freezer checks out OK you will need to replace the ice maker.

Check to see that the refrigerator has power and is working. Reset or replace the fuse or circuit breaker in the house if needed, especially if a power outage has recently occurred. Make sure the water valve is connected to the refrigerator and is fully turned on. Ensure that the ice maker is turned on. Some Whirlpool refrigerator models have a switch located above the ice bin; some models have an arm that should be raised up to turn the ice maker on. The arm is also located above the ice bin. Clear away any ice cubes that may have gotten jammed in the ice maker, bin or dispenser that may be preventing ice cubes from moving as expected in the system. Use a plastic utensil to clear away any obstructions. Contact an authorized service center for assistance if the above steps do not fix the issue.

Open the door and hold the door switch down and try the ice dispenser. Do you hear any thing. Take all the ice out of the bin and try. Anything? Take the bin out and try. Anything? The motor is behind the back cover where the bin sits. See if you get power to it using a voltmeter. If your are, probably bad motor. If not dispenser switch.

Sears should fix it for free.

take and power off the unit for 5 seconds and then see what happens,

Your water filter may need replacing.Also check where the water line is connected to water line under the sink,the valve there may be clogged up or need a new one.
