What you have in the back is a 1/4 tube which will feed cold water to the icemaker.

go to any hardware store and ask for an icemaker supply line kit. It will consist of a tapping valve, about ten feet of 1/4 inch tubing and a straight connector.

it will also contain step by step instructions.

You will have to determine what cold water line to tap into that is accessable. Perhaps the kitchen sink cold water supply if it is on the same wall as the refrigerator. Many times the line is run up from the basement.

enjoy your new icemaker.

Hi, If you purchase a water line kit, it will come with all the fittings you need. There should be a inlet valve behind the rear panel in back. You need a 1/4" line with fitting. It also comes with a saddle valve you need to hook up the water supply. These can be found at any hardware store.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.

SOURCE: Kenmore ice maker

yes you need to hook up a line froun the cold water supply of the house to the water valve that is located at the back of the ref to the water valve that is down at the botton right corner
follow the water line from the top going into the icemaker down to the bottom there is where the valve is located behind the back cover

Does the ice maker filter have to be in for the fridge to work right it is a Kenmore Coldspot

? I don't believe there is a "Ice maker" filter just for the Ice. There is a water filter for both the icemaker and cold water (usually). Check your Owner's manual. Usually there is an option for water filter or no water filter. The no water filter option requires a "bypass" device to substitute for the filter, but of course the water is not filtered, unless you have an external water filter in the supply line to the refigirator. Hope this helps. Of course if you have no water supply, the Ice Maker will not make ice.

I just bought a used kenmore elite side by side refrigerator and hooked up the water line to the back of the fridge. My question is where does the long water line the goes to the fridge and comes back...

Where you hook the house water line is to the water inlet valve which is a one in two out solonoid controlled valve. One side goes to the water dispenser in the door and the other hooks to the ice maker connection.

So I suspect the long water line you are talking about has had the lines switched at the valve and needs reversed. The long line probably goes up the back of the unit and connects to the ice maker. The one for the water dispenser should hook to the water chiller resevoir and then to the water dispenser.

Ice maker will not produce Ice

Make suer the freezer temp is 5 degrees or lower. If not the ice maker will not operate. Also make sure that you have water pressure at the back of the fridge. If so, you most likely have a bad water valve. It is what your water supply connects to. You can test it like this. Disconect the water line on the fridge side of the valve. Unplug the wires from the valve. Supply 110v to the plug. If water comes out from where you disconected the line, the valv is good. If not, you will need to replace it. If you can't find the answer with this. Reply back and I'll talk you through until we find it.

At the back bottom of the fridge there will be a coil solenoid. If your appliance is ice make ready this will be there, these coils have a bracket that has fitting for a water connection. Get a 1/4 tube with a ferrell and nut. slide them on the tube and connect to the fitting.
