Bad picture color. red LED blinks 5 times. Replace picture tube?

The color on my KV-36FS16 is tainted blue. I tried to adjust the color/hue etc settings in video & while they do adjust the color it keeps a blue tent no matter how the settings are adjusted.

The Red "Standby/Sleep" LED light flashes 5 times.
I had a TV repair man come out & he said it needs a new picture tube.

Any second opinions out there?

My screen has little dots appearing sometimes red sometimes blues behind the picture i just replaced the lamp bulb as i thought it would cure the problem

the projection tube needs to be adjust for color alignment, each tube (red, green, blue) must be aligned so you there would be no color smear appear on screen. if it is aligned try to set up the color balance, hue etc.

1) I have a Sony KV-32FS13 that has a green tint in the picture. Does any oneknow how to access the service menu for this model? I tried other adjustments and I can't get rid of the annoying green...

Code 5 is "AKB error". AKB, or auto kine bias, is a cicuit that monitors the three color guns of the picture tube (red, green and blue) and tries to adjust them for proper color balance. If it can't, the picture is blanked (usually) and the timer/standby light blinks 5 times. When the color drives aren't balanced, you see a color tint in the picture like you're describing.

There might be a problem in the AKB circuit, or the picture tube may just be old enough that the AKB circuit has run out of adjustment range. If the tube is at fault, you should consider replacing the set. A new tube will cost nearly as much as a new 32-inch LCD TV, and you'll need to pay someone to install it and set it up. There are special tools required to perform the convergence which gets the color guns aligned with the face of the tube so they hit the right colors.

If you'd like to try tinkering with the service menu adjustments, this site explains how to access the menu and gives a list of settings.

Sony, tv comes on color fine, then turns red

I had the same problem with my TV, but the hue was blue. I was told that not only did I have to replace the picture tube that wasn't staying on, but I would have to replace them all because they would not mix properly. After much investigation, I found that there is an adjustment for a variable power supply to each tube that can brighten and lighten each tube. I adjusted the RED pot and my picture color issue was resolved! To access this adjustment you must remove the front panel on the TV. At the bottom corners there are two small screw covers that you must remove. Then un-screw the screws under the covers. Then pull the front panel off of the TV, (it hooks under the top near the screen so it will swing out from the bottom). Now remove the wooden panel in the center, (four screws). The pot adjustments are at the bottom of the TV. They are marked for Red, Blue, and Green. They are extremely sensitive, don't turn them much! If you over adjust you will get red, green, or blue lines on your screen. Adjust back down to remove these, (this is also the remedy for removing these lines that can appear over time). Good Luck and God Bless!

Sony KP-53V45 color issues

When ever a tube starts to short or is shorted set always will have over bearing drive lines then shut down like RED if it was bad, set would come on long enough for red lines across set then shut down this is the same with all 3 tubes. Also if you think it might be green tube disconnected green CRT board on neck of green tube if set comes on and plays then it is green tube do all 3 tube this way one at a time this will tell you if you have other problems.

Picture is going fuzzy and blinking red light...

This is the classic symptom of a CRT (picture tube)that is starting do get weak. The picture takes longer and longer to come on, it appears greenish and blurry, and it blinks on and off in different scenes, and when it is off the timer LED blinks 5 times. Sony has a circuit called "IK Blanking" which monitors and adjusts the colors in the picture tube, and shuts the picture off when the tube is getting too weak. The good news is that the Sony tubes always respond beautifully to a CRT rejuvination (recharge), and the picture returns to perfect. Since the set is 36 inches and VERY heavy, it should be serviced in-house and an appropriate charge for a service call for your set should be around $150.

Color variation and blinking red light on bottom of tv

The light flashing 5 times is normal at turn on as the set is monitoring current drain on the pictures tube cathodes. Any speakers near the set that have un-shielded magnets could possibly cause color issues.
