programs we put to macbooks are supposed to be easy to use. you have to first check the printer itself when you turn it on, uncover the scan bed and see if its moving or flashing light the moment you power it on. or when you press the scan button. if that scan thing inside the scan bed is not responding at all when you press the scan button, it means that the scan mechanism (bulb) is broken or needs replacing or the printer itself needs replacing. if that hp dj is new and if you're in the usa you can have it replaced by hp, just call 800-HP invent for tech support.

You should reinstall previous version and install again the latest version. Clean your mac using best mac uninstaller, remove unwanted files and make your mac fast.
