Hey,

Have a look at this microsoft help page
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HP051873811033.aspx

I'm pretty sure it will answer your question.
If not, you could possibly send the document to me and I could look at it myself and help you with it.

Thanks,
Ekse

I am working on an independent study. The problem I am trying to tackle is having my CEENBot step though a function that is inputted by the user. However, I am not sure how to input a graph from the user....

A function can be entered into a function as a parameter. For example if you named your function CEENBot you would ask for a parameter in the header like this:

CEENBot()
Func
:
EndFunc

the parameter can be any type of variable, but it must match the type entered when it is used, so you can't be telling the calculator you entered a function and trying to use rref( on it

To your second question the calculator does generate a table, however it's not really accessible (as far as I know) from a program/function. The table can be viewed by pressing (Diamond)+F5 but it only handles functions that are graphed. You can manually create a table if you want by using the function (for this example y1) with and giving it a list of X values (for this example listx) to output a list of Y values (yep, this one is listy)

y1(listx)->listy

from there you can construct your own table

How do i do difference quotient on my ti 89?

The function avgRC( calculates forward-difference quotients and the nDeriv( calculates central-difference quotients. Take your pick. You can also use the d( differentiate function.
You can also create a small program or function that gets a function as argument, along with the variable and the step and returns one of the difference quotients. (central, forward, or backward).

I tried to draw a graph manually but I kept getting an error message even thoug I did it step by step like the users guide instructions said

Error messages are important to help solve the problem.
Try the following instructions to draw the function Y=5X+2
but first Reset the calculator by pressing the RESET button on back of calculator. I do not want you to run into problems created by old settings.
  1. Turn calculator ON. If you do not see several icons press [MENU].
  2. Use arrow to select the [GRAPH] application and press [EXE].
  3. In the entry screen, the line with Y1= is highlighted. If it is not, use arrow to highlight it.
  4. Press the right arrow, the highlighting disappears leaving you with Y1= and the blinking cursor.
  5. At the position of the cursor type 5 then press the [X, theta,T] key, under the [ALPHA]. On the screen appears 5X, complete your equation by typing [+] 2
  6. Press [EXE] to store function.
  7. If you want to draw other functions, it is time to do so on that screen.
  8. When done, press [F6:Draw].
  9. If the screen does not show a lot of the function, you can use the arrow keys to pan (move the center of the graph. You can pan Up, Down, Left, or Right.
  10. You can also press [SHIFT][V-Window] to set the window limits.

Syntax

Type the number and use one of the foregoing access methods to echo the exclamation mark on the home screen and press ENTER.

The largest number that you can use with the factorial is 69.

What does MC,MR,M-,M+ on the calculator mean and do?

Hi,

MR is Memory Recall
MC is Memory Clear
M+ is Memory add
M- is Memory subtract

These are used to add and subtract the answers to multi-step equations so you can do the small steps with the calculator, then store, change or recall the total as needed. You might add a long string of numbers in groups this way. Or you can do all operations in one parenthesis, then just store the total of each.

A good problem to illustrate this would be : (123 x 3) + (55 - 24) + (10^2) - (7 x 8) = ???
Using MR, M+ and M-, you can do each one as a group, and only store the answers. 123 x 3 = 369 so M+ to put 369 in memory. Clear it from the calculator. 55 - 24 = 31, so M+ to put this in memory and add to the 369 already there. Clear it from the calculator. 10^2 = 100, so M+ this to memory also to add it. Clear it from the calculator. 7 x 8 = 56 so M- this to SUBTRACT it from memory. Clear it from the calculator if desired. Now, when you then hit MR, you will get the total of all of these small equations in parenthesis -- 444.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
