When using my laptop, it suddenly turned off and it won't turn back on. The power light blinks and the adaptor light is on. When I push the on button, the fan starts for a couple of seconds, the power light goes on and center light blinks, the battery light does nothing, and then it goes dead. The power light continues to blink when it is dead. The other two lights are not on.
Thank you for your response. I went through the Dell troubleshooting. My computer won't even POST. When I turn it on, the power on button goes green, the fan starts and then it stops and the power light starts bliniking slowly. I was stopped at Dell troubleshooting because the lock LEDs don't go on at all. Dell doesn't have that option. I'm thinking the motherboard as well, but was hoping for a more favorable option I may have been missing.Thank you for your response. I went through the Dell troubleshooting. Hi, First, we need info about your laptop brand, model, and OS Please remove the battery, hold on power button for about 50-60 seconds, then plug-in the charger and turn the laptop ON, Please tell us your results Good Luck
Try removing your battery pack. Then connect the power adaptor (even without the battery) and connect is directly to the power outlet. If it powers up, then the battery pack might be defective or totally drained.
If the battery is just totally drained, simply place the battery to the laptop. Do not turn the laptop on. Plug the power adaptor to the laptop and plug it to the power source. If you see that the charging LED is blinking in your laptop, then just leave it charging up to 5 to 8 hours.
Never use a laptop on battery mode while it is plugged in to a power source. This is the number 1 reason why laptop batteries don't last longer.
Unplug your battery and then plug in AC adaptor and see if laptop powers on. I assume you power button doesnt turn on at all? If so, your motherboard seems to have a power issue. Unfortunately, you have to replace motherboard. If laptop. powers on withour battery then you then battery needs replacement.
When you plug the laptop to the power adapter, you should see the indicator led lit up telling that it has good connection to the ac adaptor. It wont turn on because either there is a loose connection to the power adaptor and hasn't been charging the battery, or the power adaptor itself is bad. Check the power plug with a miltimeter, it should be around 19 Volts.
I am facing a similar problem with 5160 and my power button will not power up the laptop. I presses the shift key, it got powered up (offcourse only fan started but the screen is black)
Try pressing shift key to power up.
sounds like you have an intermittent problem with your AC adaptor or dc input jack. Does the light on the AC adaptor light up when you plug it in? If it does then your dc input jack may be faulty. If the light on the ac adaptor does not light then replace the ac adaptor.
Good Luck!
