While cutting the lawn the blades stopped turning. I replaced both the blades and the deck belt. Tried it again but the blades don't engage - I don't hear anything when I move the clutch lever. The drive belt appears to be intact and so is the clutch cable. This model has a manual clutch 917-289344 42 inch Craftsman mower - Husquavarna built with Kohler engine. Thnaks for any suggestions.

Check proper belt routing. These models are a little tricky. Also check tensioner spring.

lift the seat and make sure the connector is firmly plugged into the seat switch

Have a look at the saftey switches.theres one under the seat.and one under the blade engage lever.
There may also be one under the hood near the fuel tank.

First check to make sure you can turn each blade by hand, with the mower off. If neither blade spindle is frozen remove the deck and make sure all the pulleys move freely and function like they should. The cable should have been operating a spring loaded pulley arm that applied tension to the deck belt to make the blades function. Some times build up with block that from moving or rust will make it stick.
