Frozen vents from freezer to fridge

Kenmore fridge model 106.79172990. Both vents from freezer to fridge were frozen solid. Underneath freezer bottom there was also frozen ice. I was not getting air circulation and the fridge was not cold. I have defrosted the vents and removed the ice. Why did this happen? What can I do to prevent it from happening in the future?.

It turned out to be a clogged drain. Unfortunately, I had no idea where the drain was located so that I could unclog it. So I called

in a repairman to fix it.

You most likely have a defrost problem.or a clogged drain.you need to check your defrost heater defrost timer and thermostat.if ice is formed over drain then you can unclog drain with hot water.you will see when it is unclogged, water will run down drain without running over into bottom of freezer.

Can you tell me why please?

All the big cooling happens inside freezer compartment. Freezer gives little cool air to fridge compartment. Now when the vent blocks that little cold air cannot go into fridge compartment. Thus your freezer works good but not fridge compartment. Milk goes bad but frozen meet keeps good.....

Vent freeze up either due to defrost problemt, defrost drain line problem, Evaporator fan problem or even can be your damper motor not opening due to unit failure or frozen damper door.

Freezer works but fridge is not cooling like it should

If the fan in the freezer is working properly you may have froven the vent going from the freezer to the fridge. Try moving the adjustment dial in both directions. If it moves too "easy" the position bar may have fallen out of its recepticle. If it moves knda hard the vent is probably frozen solid. If the cover in the freezer is removavle, do it and look to see if the vent is frozen. A blow dryer is your weapon of choce here. If it's not frozen you will have to remove the cover from the adjustment dial in the fridge to the rear of the fridge to verify the adjustment bar.

Ice on back wall of freezer, food not staying completely frozen

Do you have the complete model number from the tag on the freezer, it should be either on the bottom rail visible with the door open or on the side wall near the front. I am trying to look this up to see if it is an automatic defrost model, if so you may need to do more than just unthaw and adjust

Thanks

Need some help. have a kenmore model no 53606201 made in 6/02 that is having problems with the refrigerator. The top two shelves barely cool down. We cleaned the coils underneath, front and back (they...

Sounds like the freezer fan may not be working properly. This fan must rotate to move cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator.

This fan is probably behind an access plate in the freezer. You likely could hear it if it's running. Remove the plate and look at it to be sure. If it's not turning, you will need to replace the fan motor. These are readily available.

Everything in my frig is frozen

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp .. I don't know what he was doing with the putty unless he was stopping up the vent which won't work because you have to have the air circulation for the fridge section to work. The fridge temp control may be the problem.

Water leaking from bottom of kenmore side by side fridge.

THE FREEZER MAY BE FROZEN UNDERNEATH THE COILS. UNPLUG THE KENMORE AND GET A VACUMM CLEANER OR A SHOP VAC AND CLEAN THE COILS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FRIDGE. AFTER THAT REMOVE ALL ITEMS FROM THE FREEZER AND USE A SCREW DRIVER TO REMOVE THE PANELS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE FREEZER TO LOCATE THE COILS (INSIDE) THEY MAY NEED TO BE DEFROSTED DUE TO THE LENT BUILD-UP ON THE (UNDERSIDE) BOTTOM OF THE FRIDGE... HOPE THIS HELPS

Fridge not getting any air, freezer is working

I have a Kenmore w/ freezer on bottom. The top vent in the fridge is ducted to the freezer and is supposed to blow air. Mine was not.

I removed all the frozen goods and took off the back panel (inside to unit) which had a little ice on it. Underneath the panel was a solid wall of ice......including the motor which is supposed to blow air up to the 'fridge. I'd bet a beer that is your problem as well.

The ice seized motor will not be harmed because it is resistance loaded.

The best part is with a blow dryer and some elbow grease...the fix is free! I hope it helps.

My refrigerator freezes my food solid

There are vents that allow the cold air to flow from the freezer to the fridge. If those vents become clogged with ice or fail mechanically, they can become stuck open or closed. The temp adjustment should move the damper in the vents. But if they are frozen open, then the fridge will become too cold.
