Usually theres a small bolt under float bowl of the carb. remove small bolt and remove lower bowl to empty out - careful not snag the float or let float drop to far, the needle valve is attached to the float. Once bowl is empty you replace the bowl- the gasket is rubber and the one around the small bolt is a thin brass washer all reusable. To make sure the bowl is back on right make sure the shallow end of the bowl is directly under the needle seat area so the bowl won't restrict the float movement

Shudder when in higher gears

The most likely causes are simple:

plugged air filter
water in fuel (likely to cause trouble in all RPMs)
plugged main jet in carb
plugged fuel screen in fuel tank
faulty float setting in carb
faulty spark plug
improper timing

It's likely a carb problem if the air filter is clean and the fuel is fresh and free of water. Condensation is a good posibility (water in the fuel). I would suggest pulling the carb and inspecting the cleanliness of the fuel in the bowl for water and dirt. If you find water, dump all the fuel and start fresh. If you find dirt, give the carb a good cleaning.

1993 fzr sitting for 5 years ?? Where do i start?

Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? (not all bikes have a water trap bowl). Install an in-line fuel filter. Use premium gas. You will need to clean the built up varnish from the evaporated gas out of the carbs.

FOR EACH CARB > Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

I strongly suggest you to let the shop take care of the carbs. Cleaning can be a nightmare times four and doing the balancing and sync of the carbs sounds easier than it is. If you do the carb work yourself, then be sure you have a fire extinguisher at hand. I am serious about that.

Engin looses power between 4 and 8000rpm. The sparkplug on cilinder 4 burnd black, so i replaced all 4 plugs. Started it up and the resalts was the same. Can it be the coil or the pick-ups?

My 1991 yamaha fzr 600 has been sitting for three years same gas and oil and filters. it starts with a full choke but when you give it any thorottle it bogs out and dies

Any water in the gas? Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Any water or trash in the bowl? ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ). Drain all the old gas from the tank. Install an in-line fuel filter. You will need to clean the built up varnish from the evaporated gas out of the carbs.

IDLE

Drain the carburetors. There should be a screw on the lower side of each carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Any water in the gas? Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carbs to fill with gas. Install new stock NGK spark plugs and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetors from the engine.

FOR EACH CARB > Remove the float bowl and clean the entire
carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well. Don't be chincy with the carb cleaner. Use a lot. Until the idle curcuit gets un-varnished the problem will be there.

Go to the dealer and ask for the stock plugs for your bike. Check for spark on each of the new plugs then install the plugs.

Remove the carbs , dissemble it and clean the varnish out. Remove the petcock, ( gas valve ),water trap and clean it out. Next let one cup of gas flow into a container. Any water or rust in the bottom of the container? If any rust was in the water trap or the container then purchase an inline fuel filter to eliminate the rust getting into the carb.

If cleaning the carbs yourself does not do the trick then take it to the dealer and have them clean it and install carb kits. This should eliminate the carbs as a problem. Get a new air filter and install it.

Now you have spark, gas and air. If it still will not start it is likely that you need new crank seals. On a bike that old you may well need new crank bearings as well.

Bogs down at 25 30 mph 1st gear 45 in 2nd gear

  • Check to see that the choke is not partially on.
  • Drain the carbs and clean them with B12 chemtool or any other good carb cleaner. The main jets in the carbs are probably gummed up. To clean the carbs properly they will need to be removed from the bike. Be sure to balance and synchronize the carbs when reinstalling.
  • Remove and clean the petcock water trap and clean the trap of water and rust etc. If a filter screen is present clean it as well.
  • Set idle speed to factory specs. Do not use gas with Ethanol.
This should fix the bog problem.
