Can a Bose radio get fixed after a power surge?

A power surge caused by Bose Radio to stop working.

  • ppieklo Mar 11, 2009

I have the same problem. Opened up my Model AWR1-1W mfd 1998. Fuse is good; continuity to it thru cord is good. Nothing is burnt on top of board. After putting together, still no power except for once, after plugging in cord at radio while other end already plugged into the wall outlet, when ALL segments of Display lit up; then nothing again after that. With all segments lit, one might think there is a logic problem as well.

The display is suddenly filled with information (sometimes unreadable). Everything has now stopped working.

From the sounds of it the microprocessor is scrambled, this can be caused by a power surge or thunderstorm, unplug unit, press and hold power button for 60 seconds in an attempt to clear the processor, if this fails this will be a job for a Bose factory trained technician.

I need a new power supply assembly for my Bose Wave Radio/CD. The unit is about 10 years old, but has been used very little. I think a power surge damaged the unit. If parts are available, can this be...

It could possibly be a fuse inside the unit that was blown. Does it turn on? any power going to it? In my opinion it is def. worth the fix. I know these bose units go for a lot of money. I believe it can be fixed. If you are looking to sell just post it on craigslist explaining the problem and sell for maybe about half the cost of what it is.

Alarms will not work

Hi. Often following a power outage there is a power surge when the power is restored. If you do not have your Bose protected by plugging it into a surge protector, an internal fuse will blow to protect the rest of the radio. Once that fuse is replaced you will be back up and running. J.

The radio and alarm stopped working. It is about 10 years old

A Bose Wave Radio with a problem? I say blame Paul Harvey! :P
No seriously.. Does the radio work in manual mode, or does it not work at all? On most devices such as this, this, the clock and alarm function is usually found on it's own "clock board", and there is no real practical way to fix the board. The board that controls the **** will probably have to be replaced. It may very well be that a failure of the clock circuit may be causing the radio to not work either because the radio circuitry may only be getting power when the clock enabled it to - either manually, or when the alarm is activated.
To repair it, I recommend calling SOT Electronics in Concord California. Here is a link that should give you all the info you need.

The RSX BOSE radio stopped working.

If you disconnect the bose radio, it loses it's programing.. Needs to be taken to a GM dealer and vin coded. as for the volume knob, it's digital.. if it's not working it wont be a connection issue, it's likely a flaw on the board. The best place to get that fixed is United radio in NY. 1-800-448-0944

Think Power surge blew out radio. Can it be fixed?

The fix may be as simple as replacing a fuse. Location varies by model, but each has an internal fuse on one of its circuit boards. SAFETY NOTE: It may seem obvious, but be sure to disconnect power from the set before you open the case.

If the fuse is not the problem, you will need to seek professional repair. Unfortunately, Bose does not release their parts lists or schematics, effectively creating a monopoly for parts and repairs. In fact, their web site says that the Bose factory is the only option for service or repair. They used to list a flat rate repair charge on the web site, but removed it - probably because it scared too many people. Their troubleshooting guide (below) might help, but it's very simplistic.

Before you invest in expensive factory repair on one of these trouble prone sets, you might want to investigate the new HD radios -- better sound at a MUCH lower price.

Bose Wave radio humming noise

Actually the problem was caused by a bad 470uf cap, that was used to filter the powersupply for all the analog amps. Replaced the cap the unit works like new.
