SOURCE: mouse keeps freezing

It maybe getting too hot. You need to blow out all vents and fans. I have seen acer laptops get too hot, easily, so you need to make sure it is dust free.

What made you suspect the compund? You're probably right though. The fan has died or is too slow. The CPU and the video chip are what the fan is protecting. It might require a new CPU chip and fan. If it's the video chip, then a new mother board is in your future.

SOURCE: I have a toshiba Satellite laptop that all of the sudden has started shutting down on me when I am in the middle of something. What could it be?

Depends. When you say it shuts down, do you mean it flashes blue and then shuts off / restarts, or just plain shuts off, and stays off?
If it is flashing blue real fast, then shutting off, here's what you do:
While starting the computer, press F8 as soon as the brand logo goes away, and keep pressing until you get a screen that says Safe Mode on it. Then highlight the Disable Automatic Shutdown option, and hit enter. Use the computer until you get the blue screen. It will give you an error message, followed by a stop code. (0x0000ce or something like that). Get that error code, and bring it back here. I'll tell you what it means.

If it is simply turning off without warning, and stays off, most likely it is overheating. In which case, head to Wal-Mart, go to the computer section where the keyboards are, and pick up a can of compressed air. Blow out the computer right where you see the vent on the side (maybe on back), and try that. If that doesn't work, get a laptop cooling pad and use that. If it still doesn't work, then the heatsink for the CPU needs to be recompounded, in which case take it to a shop. Unless that is you ABSOLUTELY know what you are doing and can do it yourself. IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN A LAPTOP APART BEFORE DO NOT ATTEMPT IT WITHOUT A PROFESSIONAL, YOU WILL BREAK IT.

Let me know how it goes, and i'll try to help you further if need be.

My toshiba satellite series keeps freezing up when idle and I have to do a force shut done, any suggestions?

Best suggestion is to back up your files and reinstall the OS.
If it freezes while idle, some necessary data is most likely corrupted.
Force shut downs often cause system files to corrupt.
