Dusting is not going to help. I could be the lamp if it happens with no input hooked up.

Unplug you projector and allow the bulb to cool. Open the area where the projector bulb is located. Check the projector lens for any damage and clean it from dirt's and dust. Same as with the bulb.

Fan is loud, picture flickers - NOT BULB!

it's the colorwheel. the motor bearings are going. it is also causing the flickering. try www.projectordoctor.com.

I have optima projector and started flickering, green and other colors and after about 10 min. I hear a noise and the system shuts down. I seen by removing the dust it will stop flickering and once I did...

I have solved the problem (running fine for 10 days now)
I was planning to replace the bulb, but after reading the different posts, i understood it was NOT in cause.

i had to open the projector, remove and clean every part :
- the motherboard
- very dusty alim parts (radiators)
- the big fan blades (i used silicon lubricant for the rotor)
- the optical block
- the TINY RADIAL FAN IN THE OPTICAL BLOCK (very hard to clean)

advices :
1/ take pictures of what you're doing
2/ tape well the folded plastic and aluminum parts to avoid light leaks !

Blending Colors/Flickering Display

Hi SmartMex

This in not a lamp problem , but rather a Mainboard issue.

You will have to take it to a Service Centre to either be repaired or replaced.

Optoma projector

DONT THROW AWAY YOUR BULB JUST YET!!! IT MAY BE THE COLOR WHEEL!

I have an optoma hd70 and was having the same problems. I also tried the "dust blob" tutorial, but unfortunately it did not work for me (and I ended up getting dust on the lens I couldn't get off myself). I started searching on the net for more answers and found some information regarding the angling of the projector. Apparently, if you tilt the projector with the back raised too high, the ventilation system does not work properly and this increased amount of heat damages the color wheel inside (this causes the wheel not to spin correctly and display a flickering effect...and that's also why it works for a few minutes on start-up but then gets too hot and the wheel skips and creates the flicker).

Luckily, I have a very extended warranty and was fortunate enough to send it in and have the dust removed & color wheel repaired/replaced. Now, I've lowered the stand for the projector to not have it tilting at such a high angle and haven't had any problems yet...but it does take awhile to get effected (had mine for about 1 & 1/2 years)

I know I should have probably just sent it for repairs in the first place...but who wants to miss out on having a projector for two weeks when a tutorial says I could've fixed it in like 20 miutes?!?! Oh well. Hope this helps someone...good luck;)

Image flickers

It sounds like the socket that the bulb goes into has an intermittant connection problem, or where the wires attach from the bulb socket to a plug or printed circuit board connection, or possibly a bad connection in the bulb driver circuit. Good Luck.
