Robin. Take off the hand wheel. Look for the funny looking washer with ears. The center fingers should be angled outward when you fit it into place (counter intuitive, I know) Fit everything back together and try it again.

SOURCE: the bobbin is getting caught and needle is jamming

This sounds like there is cotton stuck in the bobbin holder. Check it thoroughly. Take the bobbin out and turn the wheel to lower the needle a few times. This will show up any thread caught. Pull it out gently. You may have to perservere to get it all out.

SOURCE: Singer 401a does not stopped working after moving.

You may well have a small piece of thread stuck in the raceway, take the raceway out and check, failing that take the top off the machine and look at the fibre gear on top of the motor to see if it has broken away, you may have the model with the metal gear which should be okay.

SOURCE: Singer 401a - hand wheel will not move needle

Make sure the lock is tight. If it is even slightly loose, the wheel will spin without moving the needle.

SOURCE: Needle moves up and & down and sews for a few

If you look at the website, www.sewvacdoctor.com and you can see, they say it may be your foot pedal or transducer(speed control inside the machine) I would call Singer and see if it is still under warranty, hopefully it is. If it is the foot controller, that is not too expensive, I don't know about the transducer. But, call Singer at -800-4singer and tell them what is happening. Good luck

Jammed and needle bar will not move.no thread wrapped anywhere, hand wheel won't raise the bar either

1. Remove the needle and bobbin assemble completely.
2 Try to move the hand wheel - forcefully if necessary.
3. Place one drop of oil on race. That is the little dip that has been circled. The hook (pointed thing) must ride on this smoothly.
4. Try to move the hand wheel again. Back and forth until it will move without resistance.
5. Oil parts that move with metal against metal.
6. Replace the bobbin assembly. Try to rotate the hand wheel again. If it is ok you can replace the needle.
7. Try to rotate again. If it rotates smoothly you shouldn't have any further problems. If the needle strikes something under the throat plate you will need to get the sewing machine timed.

The bobbin thread will not raise with the needle

1. REPLACE NEEDLE W/FLAT PART AWAY FROM YOU.
2. MAKE SURE THE TOP THREAD IS PROPERLY THREADED.
3. INSURE BOTTOM BOBBIN IS ROTATING RIGHT DIRECTION. (USUALLY COUNTERCLOCKWISE) ALLOW THREE INCHES OF THREAD PULLED AWAY.
4. HOLD TOP THREAD W/LEFT HAND AND ROTATE HAND WHEEL TOWARDS YOURSELF. DOES IT BRING THE BOBBIN THREAD UP?
5. IF THE BOBBIN CARRIER IS INSTALLED PROPERLY THE HOOK (POINTED OBJECT) UNDER THE BOBBIN SHOULD "HOOK" THE TOP THREAD AND BRING THE THREAD AROUND THE BOBBIN THREAD. THE NEEDLE AND TOP THREAD SHOULD BE PULLING THE BOBBIN THREAD UPWARDS. IF THE HOOK DIDN'T "HOOK" THE NEEDLE THREAD THE PROBLEM IS THE DISTANCE OF THE NEEDLE AND HOOK APART OR THE TIMING. YOU MAY TRY TO MOVE THE NEEDLE TO THE LEFT SIDE AND AGAIN TRY ROTATING THE HAND WHEEL. IF IT DOESN'T WORK THEN TRY TO MOVE THE NEEDLE ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT AND ROTATE THE HAND WHEEL. IF IT BRINGS THE BOBBIN THREAD UPWARDS IN EITHER CASE IT WILL SHOW A PROBLEM WITH TIMING. THIS WILL NEED TO BE ADJUSTED BY A PROFESSIONAL.
6. REMEMBER TO PUT ONE DROP OF OIL ON THE RACE TRACK BEFORE YOU PUT THE BOBBIN CARRIER IN.

Hi I have a pfaff industrial zig zag 428, the bobbin has stopped all rotation

bobbin case should be stationary, bobbin itself is rotated as thread unwound, check hook timing. Simply turn hand wheel towards you and watch needle go down, when it reaches lowest point turn it slowly until needle rises 3/16" or so. Hook should be behind needle and slightly above eye.

Needle clamp tragedu

The needle clamp usually has a screw on the back that is tightened to prevent the needle holder from falling off. The screw on the back should be very loose. Place the holder on the arm (moves when you rotate the wheel by hand) with the screw towards the back and the hand screw on the side. Tighten the screw in the back and it shouldn't come off. Now, place the wire on the side where the hand screw on the inside of the hole along with the arm and place your needle in. Now you can tighten.

Tacsew 950 suddenly siezed up. Handwheel doesn't turn, main shaft doesn't turn, needle stuck in one position, bobbin mechanism doesn't rotate. Nothing moves. I have examined machine very...

This happened to me. I took apart the bobbin and there were no threads stuck. It moved freely, but the hand wheel was still stuck. So I checked the belt between the handwheel and the motor. I tugged on it (while the machine is off) and tugged on the belt to turn the handwheel. It took a couple tuggs to make the handwheel move, but once it started moving, it seemed to unfreeze. And I was back to normal. I can’t tell you what happened, but it’s fine now.

Necchi 575FA runs heavy, wheel barely turns.

It is the bit that rotates the bobbin case back and forth in a "shuttle" motion.
It sounds like it would be worth exploring the idea that it is time for a service !!

Hand wheel loose

In the middle of the stop motion screw wheel there is a screw, undo the screw and unscrew the stop motion wheel all the way off, you will now see a three pronged washer, take it off and put it in a different position, put the stop motion wheel back on and just tighten finger tight, tighten the small screw all the way, now loosen the stop motion wheel and press on the foot control gently, the balance wheel should move with moving the machine, if the machine turns then start over again, you can put the three pronged washer upside down if you wish.

Handwheel on Sewing machine no longer moves needle.

Actually you should have a "set screw" in the hand wheel. The set screw is usally locked down tight to keep the hand wheel from spinning freely. I f you can run the machine slowly and hold the hand wheel in one place but the machine continues running, then you do need to replace the "set screw". If you replace it you will find that you can offset some of the machines vibration by where you lock the wheel down. Trial and error is the only way to achive this adjustment, kind of like balancing the tires on your car.

Can only move the hand wheel one way

This is tech crazy

The most important element of a stitch mechanism is the shuttle hook and bobbin assembly. The bobbin is just a spool of thread positioned underneath the fabric. It sits in the middle of a shuttle, which is rotated by the machine's motor in synch with the motion of the needle.
so either there is rotational problem in the motor or the needle position is altered .just check out for it

Kindly rate me on the above said solution
