The best cartridge for your printer, quite naturally, will be compatible
with the printer model. The best inks are those of HP ink cartridges
-this lowers the chance of smearing and clogging. Most printer
manufacturers, however, have begun to make cartridges that are
compatible with most HP inkjet printers, so the quality
of printing is always top notch. When selecting a new cartridge, user
must always be aware of what type of printer he is using. Remember, the
best cartridge should always be compatible with the printer.
This is normal. The printing stops to let the jets for the ink to balance (not get loaded up with too much ink) so the printing doesn't smear. Also allows time for ink to dry some on the paper so you don't smear it when you handle it.
If you have taken it apart that far then you are way ahead of the game. My suggestion would be to clean the head or anything the ink touches in a vinegar/water solution. The vinegar dissolves any dried ink whereas the soap may actually gum things up. If that doesn't work or improve things I would say that your print head has a seal problem. The replacement print heads are worth more than a new printer so you can probably figure out whats cheaper to do.

Check on your color (not mono) ink levels. If they are low, this could cause this.
Technical info: On this printer, envelope text is printed in "composite black" which means we mix the colored inks to make black. This is done for envelopes and not letters because of the ink properties which resist water and smear. If one of the colors is low, you'll get something other than black.
what printer is it and is it using ink/cartridge? Try taking out the ink and check to see if its leaking or anything like that. Clean the printer and print a couple of pages to see if the problem is resolved. you may also need to replace the ink/cartridge. good luck.
