When I play back "old cassettes", they show big white fuzzy vertical type lines. Picture is otherwise clear, & can hear it. My other problem is that I am trying to record, but my camera is always blury. I have tried new tapes. The focus is as clear as if I put it on night vision, but I don't want 2 record like that obviously. If I go back to normal, the picture is really blury. Records & plays back this way with sound.

clean the heads - the '5 stripes' are the symptom of dirty heads.

Right.. it is not a video ribbon, they call it flexible wires or flexwire in short..

there is a couple other posts on Fixya regarding this issue, the CCD sensor going bad and resulting in no image. i have the same issue and i just stumbled on the (yet to be verified) solution. www.samsungclassaction.com. if the settlement is legitimate then Samsung will repair for free! (and refunds for people who already paid Samsung for repairs). the site asks for contact info but i worry about scams so i'm going to contact Samsung directly.
i hope this is real!
The affected models include:
SCD 23, SCD 27, SCD 103, SCD 107

I work on this model of samsung the lcd problem is a common thing with this camera
The ribbon cable to the lcd from the camera cracks and causes what you are talking about .
Normally the camera will still work buy using the eye viewfinder for recording and playback but you will not hear the sound unless the lcd door is open but then the picture in the viewfinder goes away when this door is open and comes back when it is closed
my email is [email protected] and sell on ebay as uromastyx

Since the camcorder returns to the auto shutter setting and the auto exposure setting when it's switched into Night Capture mode, I would say that might be your problem. Change your shutter and exposure settings. To do this, switch to Camera mode, turn the menu dial to the setting you wish to change then press enter. You may have to play with the settings until you get the desired picture. Remember, faster shutter speeds for faster action (stop action), and longer exposure settings for darker situations. Let me know if you need more help.
