Samsung camera won't record, light won't turn off
I am grateful to Mr. beck ham for his fix involving the date and time. I read his answer and realized that I, too, left my camera on a shelf for a long time and I also didn't have a lithium battery installed.
When reading about his proposed solution, I knew that I didn't have a DV cable. I also knew that my computer doesn't have a DV port and so I would to buy a card, plus a cable. This was going to get expensive.
I called Samsung. They acted like the camera would have to be sent in for repairs of course. 110.00. No thank you.
Then an idea came to me. If the issue had to do with the date and time being lost because of not having the lithium battery, maybe if I put a battery in, it might solve the problem. But didn't seem likely.
Before going to the store to get a battery, I thought what the heck... I'm going to go into the menu settings and set the date and time. Can't hurt.
Guess what? My viewfinder and LCD screen are working now! I didn't have to connect my camcorder to a computer to reset anything. All I had to do was set my date and time!
Memory card error
When you tried to format, did it complete formatting? If format failed then the memory is bad. Buy a replacement. Format should be completed in the camcorder for it work right. If format completed, and you can write to and read from the memory card on the PC, then there may be a problem with the camcorder card reader. Try blowing out the card slot with canned compressed air. (Don't use a tire inflator) And gently wipe off the contacts on the card with a QTip dipped in alcohol. Good luck.

I own the same camera, I have had the same problem on and off for years. Here is what the solution is: ON THE TOP OF THE CAMERA THERE ARE A COUPLE OF BUTTONS WHERE THE PLAYBACK IS AND REWIND ETC... YOU WILL ALSO SEE SEE A BUTTON " BLC / MULTI DISP. wHEN YOUR VIEWER IS BLACK PRESS AND HOLD THAT DOWN AND YOUR PICTURE WILL COME BACK UP. I don't know what this feature is for maybe a lousy fade control, but this will bring your picture back in to the viewfinder. Good Luck...
