  1. Turn the power OFF.
  2. Open the front cover.
  3. Turn the power back ON. The print cartridge carrier should move to the install position located in the middle of the printer.
  4. If it does not, close and reopen the cover:
  5. Remove the color print cartridge.
  6. Close the cover.
  7. If there is no error indicated by flashing lights, the color cartridge has short-circuited.
  8. However, if you continue to get an error, repeat steps 1-3, and then go to step 9.
  9. Remove the black print cartridge and reinsert the color cartridge.
  10. If there is no error indicated by flashing lights, the black cartridge has short-circuited.
  11. If you continue to receive an error in both cartridge scenarios, both print cartridges have short-circuited.

Does lexmark offer online installation for a lexmark z12. Do not have cd or cd-rom to install printer

Access the manufacturer's web-site:

http://support.lexmark.com

and enter 'z12', and do a search.

Select the device-drivers for your Operating System (Mac OS? Windows XP? Windows 7?).

Blinking lights on Lexmark Z12 printer

Unfortunately, the Lexmark website is set up so I can't provide you with direct links to the workaround for these problems....
Go here: http://support.lexmark.com/perl/support/support.cgi
Do a search on "blinking flashing lights + Z12"
and try to follow the steps outlined in the troubleshooting guides that calls up.
This is the most likely candidate, but there are others that could cause this symptom:

Lights Flashing on the Printer ID: 241
Test the cartridges one by one and do the printer hardware test (refer to the relevant document for your printer) to establish which one is defective. The defective cartridge needs to be changed.

If the power light on the printer is blinking, you may have a carrier stall. To check this:
First unplug the printer.
Move the cartridges to the left by hand. In order to do this, you need to grip the top of the carrier belt (a black/grey belt with cog-like teeth) and pull it towards the right-hand side of the printer.
Once the cartridges have been moved across, you can clip them out.
Try to print without the cartridges in the carrier.
If you no longer have a carrier stall, put the cartridges back into the carrier and clip them into place.
I hope one of these options will provide you with the solution to your problem. If not, please write back with a report of what you tried and we will try to help you further.

Lexmark z12 printer

Most likely your printer's cartridge settings are incorrect. You possibly have a black and white cartridge in your printer but your computer settings are for a color cartridge. First verify what type of cartridge is in your computer. Then find the printer your are using installed on your computer. If you OS is Microsoft then double click on the Lexmark z12 and click on printer and then properties. Another window will pop up. Click on Cartridge Maintainence and then click on Verify/Change Cartridge. Hope this solves the problem. It worked for me.

How to install if disk for printer is good for windows 95-98 and have windows xp

hi,

unplug the printer and lift the cover and manually try to move the print nozzle assembly back and forth to see if it will move to both sides fully, use a flashlight to see if anything is caught in the belt or sides, the Z12 is an old printer model and the belt may be worn to the point that it wont stay in alignment and might have to get a new printer, fortunately dedicated printers arent that expensive and maybe you can get one at a thrift store real cheap.

Lexmark z12

You can download the driver here, directly from Lexmark:

http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?lxkprod=Z12+Color+Jetprinter

NOTE: Lexmark does not have Windows Vista drivers for this model. However, it has been reported that Windows 2000 drivers work well on Vista.
