This happens each time I travel back to the Philippines where I live. It is more humid and the power is 220 volts here and I"m not sure if either one of these contribute to the problem. Every time I go back to the US for school, though, it works just fine as if nothing happens.

Hi
You may need a new battery. I would download software to check the battery.
Does the computer start with the AC plugged in and the battery removed?
What type of Laptop Do You Have?

whats happening is that the cpu is overheating and shutting down the computer due to your fan not spinning, if you wish to test this remove the bottom panel and remove the fan and its cooling tubes should all be one part (quite easy 3 or 4 bolts) and blow on the cpu or put a pedistal fan facing it or any other form of cooling that wont damage it, and try to start it if it boots for a while it is the fan and you will need to replace it, i had this exact problem yesterday

I think some cooling devices on your laptop stopped working which might have lead to Motherboard problem due to heating.
