If you look through the hole left when the plastic power button broke off, you can usually see the actual power switch. It generally looks like a small square with a round push button on it. You can use a small non-metal object to press the button and operate it. (I use a bamboo chopstick; grab an extra set next time you get Chinese food. They're a very handy tool!) Just be gentle when you press the button. Those switches aren't very rugged.

You don't really need to have the TV power on to program a universal remote unless you're using its code search function. If you have the code sheet available for your remote, you can just try all the codes listed for your brand. Enter the code and then try turning the set on. Once you've entered the proper code the set will come on. If you don't have the code list, you can often get the codes for your brand from the remote manufacturer's website.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

If you are lucky with a universal it MAY OR MAY NOT EVEN PROGRAM--BEST bet would be original remote which will turn set on even if the power button is destroyed.

With a universal you enter a code and hit power, keep entering possible codes one at a time and hit power each time until the set either comes on or runs out of possible codes for the set.

Note: some of the remotes (universals) have a search mode where you can try every possible code one at a time (usually up to around 50 codes)

Again, Universal remotes are hardly universal in the sense that they will always be missing key features---if you have the old remote and it does not work--that is usually fixable.

SOURCE: sanyo stuck on video mode

Yippie, I figured out a solution that worked!!! I have a univeral remote from comcast, on that remote near the bottom left is a small button that says (input) tv/vcr, press that one time and whala!! the tv video screen was gone, I had to manually change the channel from the tv channel button on the unit. once I changed the channel to 3, my universal remote worked... the button is the second one from the bottom left... I was on hold with sanyo for a long time and just kept trying on my own, so good luck!!!!

SOURCE: DS24205 TV INPUT PROBLEM

You can buy an rf modulator ( very cheap) and connect your dvd player, game console etc) to the modulator then connect the modulator to your antenna with a coax cable. This worked for me. It placed the connection to channel 4 and other cable channels are still working,

You can buy the RF Modulator from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180299245670

Usevally after power off to the tv for about one hour, if i switched on the tv, the standby LED of the tv blinks about 5 to10 minutes and the same time tv will not on & the remote also does not...

It most likely is a error code indicating something is not quite right in the power supply of the set----I would suspect it to be a puffed up filter cap and if so the wait will gradually get longer until the set will never turn back on.

Set is in shutdown as a short somewhere.

If model indicated here is correct someone has to open it and check voltages in power supply first.
