Try cleaning the mating surfaces of the cartridges with rubbing alchohol on a cue tip. If the printer was out of ink for a while the ink dries on the surface.

Lexmark prospect pro 205 not supported by this all in one

Please make sure you are inserting genuine Lexmark cartridges. Lexmark printers work best with original supplies. Lexmark does not recommend the use of refilled, re-manufactured or clone cartridges. You might not get the print quality you expect from the ink that is specially formulated by Lexmark.

Shows black ink empty after new cartridge inserted

Replacing the cartridge should resolve this problem: Follow these steps to replace the cartridge:

Installing / Replacing the BJ Cartridge Follow this procedure to replace the BJ cartridge:
      1. Make sure the MultiPASS is plugged in.
      2. Open the document tray.
      3. Lift the document guides to open the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
      c555docguides.gif
If the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) does not open easily, slide the document guides outward and then open the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
Or slide the Document Feed Lever to either the automatic or manual setting.
      4. Pressthingtopress.gif. If installing the BJ Cartridge for the first time, skip to step 6.

Caution: Do not try to manually move or stop the cartridge holder since this may damage the unit. Do not touch the components shown or any metal parts since this may adversely affect operation of the unit and/or affect print quality.

      thingstonottouch.gif
The MultiPASS has an automatic protection feature that helps keep it from overheating. If the cartridge holder does not move, unplug the MultiPASS and let it cool for several minutes. Then plug it in again.
Press thingtopress.gifto move the cartridge holder.

      5. Raise the blue cartridge lock lever on the cartridge holder and remove the BJ cartridge.
      liftlocklever.gif
Caution: Discard the old BJ cartridge immediately according to the local laws and regulations for disposal of consumables. You may want to place it in a plastic bag to keep any residual ink from spilling. Spilled ink can stain any surface; protect yourself and your work area. If removing a BJ cartridge to use one of the optional BJ cartridges, be sure to store the BJ cartridge in the container provided with your MultiPASS. Otherwise the ink will dry and affect print quality.

container.gif 6. Remove the new BJ cartridge from its package, then remove the orange protective cap (1) and tape (2).
      removetapencap.gif
Caution: Discard the cap and tape. Never attempt to reattach them to the BJ cartridge print head. Install the BJ cartridge immediately after removing the cap and tape. Spilled ink can stain any surface; protect yourself and your work area.
      7. With the label facing outward, insert the BJ cartridge into the cartridge holder. Lower the blue cartridge lock lever until it locks into position.
      lockinpos.gif 8. Press thingtopress.gif.
The cartridge holder moves to its home position on the right side of the unit and begins cleaning the BJ cartridge print head. This process takes about 55 seconds.
      arrowagain.gif
Caution: Do not try to manually move or stop the cartridge holder since this may damage the unit.
      9. Close the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
      10. Close the document tray.
Note: If you need to unplug the MultiPASS, wait until the unit is in standby mode (date and receive mode displayed in the LCD). Otherwise the cartridge holder may not be in its home position causing the BJ cartridge to remain uncapped and dry out.

      Black ink cartidge

If a black cartridge will not print, with no error messages, it is probably th printhead. Clean it with proper cleaning solution. Refilled ones if done yourself or by someone else, can also have air bubbles, Try blowing down refill hole with tissue under the cartridge to stop ink spills. Also, if you press a folder non scented wipe under the cartridge firmly, you should get a solid little black line or impression. This will tell you if the ink is getting down ok. Try reprinting.
