Many electronics for analog (film) cameras will not work with digital. It is a huge frustration for me. See http://www.metz.de/en/photo_electronics/adapter.143.html -- You may have acceptable performance if you put the flash in "A" mode....Dave

I've mislaid my manual for my Metz 54. I haven't used it for a while and can't remember how I set the thing to shoot in ttl with my Fuji S6 Pro. When I'm in ttl mode on the flash the camera doesn't fire....

Not sure what S6 pro is, but if the flash doesn't fire in TTL then the flash is not support the type of TTL in the camera. I had the same problem with Nikon flashes on Nikon bodies. Perhaps you need a newer SCA adapter? Please go on http://www.metz.de/en/photo-electronics/sca-adapter/archive.html to check which adapter you need

Mating Metz 60CT4 to Nikon D80 camera

The 60CT-4 was not made for digital cameras.
It does TTL on film not on CMOS or CCD sensor.

Metz 60-4 flash takes much longer than normal for the ready light to come on to allow me to take another photo.

It is likely the capacitor in the battery pack. If they are not powered up every month, they dry out resulting in long power up and recycle times. You'll need to get it replaced to rejuvenate your 60 CT-4 to its original spec.
