Stuck Microwave door

The microwave door will not open on my whirlpool microwave when you push the open door button. What is causing this problem and how can it be resolved? Thanks

This is a Sharp Carousel Over-The-Range model, but don't know model #; it is at least 8 yrs. old.
Prior to not being able to open it at all, the door would only pop out a a little bit and needed to be pried open with finger tips. I assume the spring is weak.
Now it is stuck shut with a cup of milk inside!!
Have attempted to pry it open with a knife, to no avail.

In most cases this is due to a broken door opening lever or loose or broken door latch / hook parts. They can only be accessed and examined if the cover is removed from the microwave. In many over the range models, you can access the door parts by removing the control panel assembly. Sometimes you may be able to get it open by pushing up gently on the bottom of the door while pushing the button, in case you need to empty it.

This method simply allows you to open the door and remove whatever food was trapped in there before you take your microwave to repair center.
***IMPORTANT*** Ensure your microwave is unplugged for at least 5 - 10mins before attempting this.

Remove the housing of your microwave, once you have done this the screws securing the control panel should be visable. After you remove the screws, gently try to lift the control panel from the bottom( underneath) of the panel. Usually there are a couple plastic clips that help to secure the panel to the microwave chassis. There will be electrical wiring connected to the panel but you should be able to move the panel enough to get access to the door mechanism without dissconnecting any leads.
Press the door open button and you will see how the door release mechanism operates.
You can try at this point to lift your door out of the lock.. manually engage the door release mechanism and holding the lower right coner of the door lift upwards. I discovered that my micro door has a manual release for the bottom or lower door tooth with the top is electronically controlled. If you have a blown fuse or busted spring, you may have to unscrew the housing around your door release mechanism simply to give you enough room to manually lift the tooth out of the lock.
Once you remove the housing for the lock you can insert a dull flat object ( screwdriver for eg) and use it to lift the tooth over the lock.

SOURCE: Stuck Microwave door

The button assembly or the arm thats attached to the push button is broken. With the unit unplugged. Carfully take off the screws from the sides and around the back of the unit around the outside of the cover. Now once apart, DO NOT TOUCH any electrical parts. Look at the mechanism and see if you can see why the buttons not activating an arm to trigger the door latch. If you think you see why, Go to http://www.repairclinic.com and enter your model #.. Answer the questions and then a bunch of parts will come up. If they dont then get the tele # from there and call them. Depending on how old the oven is, you may want to consider a newer oven??. Good luck

I have a Whirlpool Microwave! It kept saying open/close door. Than everything went out! Nothing works! Is there a fuse or reset button?

Please post the model number of the microwave for more detailed assistance. Sounds like a fuse in the microwave shorted out. Most likely caused by a bad door switch. Recommend replacing all door switches that are there and then replace fuse.

I have a 10 year old MH7130XE Whirlpool microwave oven. The oven and key pad both work, and the oven heats just fine. The problem is the oven begins running as soon as you open the door...without pushing...

I'm assuming you mis-typed and meant the oven begins running when you SHUT the door and stops when you OPEN the door. Please tell me this is what you meant! If the microwave oven runs with the door open, UPLUG IT IMMEDIATELY AND DO NOT USE IT!!!

If the oven begins running without pushing the start button then the controller is bad or the Start button is worn out and making contact without pushing it. (Most likely it is your controller.) Generally, it is not worth the cost to replace the controller on a 10 year old microwave. Probably time for a new one.

But if you want, you can call Whirlpool and see what they suggest at 800-253-1301.

If this was helpful, please select YES to the first two RATINGS questions. Good Luck!

Whit the cover removed.

Note:
if you have a blown fuse buy several emplacement fuses because my take several trays to fix the problem and you will need more than one fuse.

Microwave shuts off by itself

The microwave has a safety door switches (2-3 micro switches)
The door mechanism should hit these micro switches. If you can open the machine, you can see that these micro switch has a holder that you can adjust and tighten to make sure that the hook of the door should activate them.
