Belkin Wireless Router F5D8233-4 shotty connection missing wireless

I got home from college back in ealry Summer to find my Linksys router to have utterly failed. Couldnt connect to it from my Dell XPS laptop wirelessly or via ethernet. We figured the problem to be Linksys blow and die easily, least from what i hear. Bought a belkin N wireless router to fix the problem. Set it up on the PC its connected to set up the password and everything. It seemed to work but soon the wireless signal LED turned off, password protected, modem connection, internet connection and power stayed nice and blue. Tried everything i know how to try and find my network on my laptop, It never shows up on the main menu of networks to connect to (using Windows XP since vista blows like linksys) but in some of the other menus that find all networks possible, but no option to properly connect to it.

Surprise surprise. Trying to make the last sentence make more sense, my network popped up and it connected to it. Only half the problem though, The connection will randomly drop. The box tells me that it either doesnt have internet connection or no modem connectivity. The latter of which is harder to fix, usually taking ~10 minutes of pulling power cords to reset the modem and router. I've talked to a belkin customer service agent unfortunately shipped over seas to India. I could tell through his questions hes pulling questions off of a computer screen and plugging in key phrases from what i tell him. Belkin is of no use for support and i use Comcast digital cable and i know from other occasions they are infamously bad with customer service.

Who should i be threatening with violence? (kidding) the fact linksys and Belkin had similar problems leads me to believe Comcast is to blame, but could a horrible connection from them cause the wireless to fail?

The problem may be that your router needs a firmware update. I work with routers everyday and have found that even out of the box they do not have the lastest firmware. Ditto for linksys.

I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router and a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. The laptop will not connect to the wireless signal from the router. It shows it as an option on the laptop, but will not connect....

It appears that your neighbour has an unprotected wireless router setup for you (and anyone else) to connect into his router and get onto the Internet. You should suggest to him to secure his wireless router.

To connect into your own wireless router, you need to configure the wireless card with your router's wireless configuration settings, eg.the SSID and encryption settings. Check your router manual on how to configure the router or go to the Belkin WEB site to download this info.
You can also connect to the Internet by using a LAN cable and plug it into the Belkin router.

Connection to a Belkin usb

if you are using the belkin utility (look at your task bar, there should be an icon that looks like a tv screen), open it and you will prompted with a belkin screen. now go to the AP List tab and locate the wireless name of you linksys router and connect to it. make sure that your using the same wireless settings like the wireless security (if you have enabled it on your router) so as to make the connection successful. if you are not sure about your wireless settings, open a web browser to a hardwired computer and type http://192.168.1.1 (default ip address of your router). you will prompted with a log in screen, leave the username blank and type admin (default password) on the password. then you will be prompted with a linksys screen, go to the wireless tacb and check your wireless ssid/name and look for the wireless security sub tab to verify the wireless password that you are using.

hope this'll help you

Would a neighbors linksys router interfere with my belkin connection?

do check the signal strength of the wireless connection..you can improve signal by removing any big objects between the compu and the router/access point and/or re positioning the router.also intervening walls will affect signal..the fact that you are getting a linksys signal impilies that your home network signal is weak..hope it helps!

How to set up network on belkin G+ wireless usb adapter

do you have a Wireless Router + Broadband modem?

This is like a base station to which your remote wireless node communicates (to get connected to your home network and internet.

something like this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=187337 for an ADSL connection.

If you are on cable, you can either get a Router similar to the one above (but for cable) http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1138056788757&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8875739789B01

or if your Cable modem has LAN ports you may just be able to use an "Access Point" to add Wireless capabilities. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1126536803676&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=0367639789B22
