You won't be able to print if one of the cartridges is out of ink. The printer needs all cartridges with sufficient ink levels to prevent damaging the printhead.
Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors
are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.
INK PROBLEM Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out and blocking the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.
Installing ink cartridges:
Make sure that the machine is turned on, lift the
Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) with both hands, then pull the Scanning
Unit Support (A) down into place.Take out a new cartridge from its casing and gently remove the orange protective tape in the direction of the arrow.Note: - Do not attempt to reattach the protective tape once you have removed it.do not touch the gold electrical contacts or the print head nozzles after removing the protective tape.Insert the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder.- Black: the left slot- Color: the right slot*
*One
black cartridge and one color cartridge must be installed in the
machine in order for the printer to operate. It does not matter if the
capacities (Standard or High) do not match.
Push up on the front of the
cartridge until it locks into place. (A click sound will be heard when
the cartridge is locked in place.)Confirm that the ink cartridges are installed properly.OR
<1> The ink cartridge is not installed properly.
<2> The ink cartridge is installed properly.
Fold the scanning unit support and close the scanning unit (printer cover).
Wait until the preparatory operation is complete; it takes about one to two minutes.

CL41, this is the one you are using for your cartridge.
Did you change your cartridge with brand new one or refilled one??
If you did with refilled one, the ink level won't go back with full.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the method how printer measures the ink level.
1. Each cartridge has a serial number.
2. As soon as installation in printer, printer recognizes the cartridge by serial #.
3. And the printer starts to count the printing document.
4. After reaching certain print counting, the ink level will show "low ink"
So my answer is even if you refilled your cartridge, the ink level won't change,
since printer cannot weight the cartridge or.....some other technology to measure each color ink level.
This is common problem with Brother Printers. I am going to assume you are using Non-Brother branded ink cartridges. Brother cartridges have a cleanser in the ink that most generic cartridges don't have. This in turn causes the jets to clog and not allow ink to pass through them. The fix is to go buy a couple of Brother cartridges and do a cleaning with those cartridges. You may spend some money doing this as a cleaning wastes a lot of ink, but it will clean the injection lines and fix the printer. You could also consider buying a new printer. I know this is not the answer you were looking for, but it is the true answer. I just bought a new printer due to this fact.

your black ink cartridgegot bad sprayernozzles now you gotta replace it and why the other color one is not bad yet cus printer as will known will depend on black ink far more so the blackcartridge is heated up more times
What is the version of your ink cartridge? It could be that it's not seated properly in the cartridge carrier. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges. Close the cover. Unplug and replug the printer into the power outlet in the wall to reset it. When the printer turns on, open the printer cover and reinsert one cartridge first. Close the cover. If no error, open the printer cover and reinsert the other cartridge. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear. You could also try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.
