Working on a Stihl 16" 031AV Chainsaw and have

  • Anonymous Sep 04, 2011

Thanks, but I've already tried all of the obvious, including two different plugs.

Thanks, Rod. They guys at Arborsite are Gurus. They helped me out and I got the saw running. I don't think there's a way to 'Unpost" your post here and I'm not really sure what the actual "Fix" was, as I went thru the saw several times and finally got it to fire after scrubbing the points and coil; they were a mess; it's an old saw. It still needs a carb kit and probably new fuel lines but the fuel lines are all ******* parts and this is an obsolete saw. I traded the owner of it for my Poulan saw so I actually made out and after a carb kit will have a nice saw. Thanks again for your time. I'll give you some "juice" for helping.

Plug may have weak spark, as odd as it sounds it does happen, try fresh plug.

Exhaust ports have been known to clog enough to keep saw from starting, rare but has happened.

Thanks, Jas. Gonna pull the flywheel off tomorrow and hope the timing key is broken. That'll make my day. Otherwise, I'm thinking I have a short to ground somewhere and will pursue that avenue. As I've said, I've checked all the "Obvious"; but haven't pulled the wheel yet.

  • Anonymous Sep 05, 2011

When pulling wheel be sure to put pressure on thick part of wheel.

Check the ignition coil and the groundwire to the coil as well. If either of these is faulty the saw will not fire. You may need a new coil.

I can't believe the "bleeped" out the word b-a-s-t-a-r-d parts! LOL. I used it in it's true form. Ignorance is bliss. JB.

Do you clean the entire saw inside and out sometimes when you keep it in a close room for months or days even they could overheat. Don't start right away but wait till its fuel is really mixed in properly. Get it checked by a service center.

My stihl ts 760 , no gas going to carb. I have changed all filter , fuel, air, all gaskets , all gas hoses, new decompression valve, plug, cleaned carb. was working before this . Any ideas?

Clean it again you missed something or maybe a gasket is on wrong. If you went through all of that it should run fine. Stihl usually rebuilds and runs well. Slow down turbo maybe you got a little ahead of yourself. Good Luck...

Stihl 021 is hard to start, runs very briefly after ignition.

My guess is since you have ignition, it is a fuel issue: 1- the carb or the fuel lines or pump are plugges with dirt, 2- fuel pump is not working,3- carb needs cleaned 4- air filter is plugged which is very common also. When the saws sit for 6 months or so, the cylinder tends to get gummed up cause our gas is SO good & when this happens with one of my saws, I put spray lube in the spark plug hole & turn it over. When I am thinking, I store my saws with the gas tank down, so that gas isnt running into the carb/engine.

Stihl MS 260 Pro wont run wide open or idle.

Hi brandon First change the sparkplug with the same heat range,Check and clean the gas filter with compressed air.Remove the carb and very carefully disassembly entirely.Check the gaskets and the diafragms. At the fuel pump side there is a fine screen(clean it).Check the needle, the spring and lever.Unlock the screws L and H(note how many turns are they).Put the corp of the carb in a special clean solution for 12 hours and then clean it with compressed air(something is clogged there).Put all back together and try to start the engine. regards savumihai71
