My 3070CW makes the same noise. It is caused by the transfer belt. One roller is driven by a cog and this goes fine. The other roller has a tensioner and this roller is making all the noise. While the noise is really loud and annoying - it is completely harmless. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Lexmark C510 is making grinding noises while printing large jobs

I found another posting stating that the culprit was the black toner cartridge. Sure enough I changed our black cartridge and the grinding noise has stopped. No wonder the grinding noise was not happening all the time only when the black cartridge got low. Thanks for the help!

Refer to the service manual in disassembling the device.. Clean it thoroughly then try it again.. If, you have no experience in doing so, hire a qualified tech to do so.

Did you run labels or paper the is not compatible with laser printers?
A label may be stuck on the fuser. There's not much you can do unless you know how to remove the fuser.

We have 2 Brother printers (mfc-9880 and MFC-8860dn both on a LAN)and have just added a hl-3070cw also on the same LAN. The 2 MFC have always appeared on ''My Network Place'' but the new HL does not and...

You have to setup that printer from all clients as a network printer again... from each client, and print a test page from each too. Sharing must be enabled also, it must be installed with latest drivers, for whichever system.. Just set it up correctly and all will be good.

Grinding noise only when printing a large print job

It is passable the grinding noise is coming from one of the toner cartridges in the printer.

Check for any toner cartridges which are stiff or difficult to turn by hand
Replace and refilled toners or compatible toners with original manufactures toners.
If you have alternative toners available replace each toner in turn to see if the cause can be identified to a particular toner.

Loud grinding noice before starting to print

Mine makes a grinding noise when scanning or making copies. As long as everything is working, I just tolerate the noise in which the rest of the staff find amusing at first and then ignore it as I do.

I had this same problem and called tech support. Instead of sending a new printer they had me

1 remove print Cartridges

3 replace print head
4 replace print Cartridges
5 unplug power from the wall

This seemed to fix the problem.....for me anyway.....for now.

hope it helps
