Air coming out of the head
I saw your other post, about the manual. Your compressor is very simple to work on but parts take some time to order. If you only need reed valves or gaskets I would try making them. Reed valves can be made using feeler gauge material (or old feeler gauge, can be slightly thinner or thicker) and cut /sand or grind to size. Gaskets can be made using automotive gasket material (try to use same thickness) and or then metal like shim material or aluminum from soda can. Use the old gasket as pattern. The gaskets used where reed valves are need to be similar material /thickness but not that critical. Just leave enough room for them to open and close, but not too much room for them to flop around. I find all kinds of debris inside of the head. Once I found what appeared to be tar but was a whole plastic bag that was sucked into the compressor and melted onto one piece of plastic sticky substance. Your piece could be a piece of the air filter left from mfg process. In another compessor, a clever mechanic used epoxy to try to seal one of the reeds on a multy reed plate to extend the life of the plate. In any event, glad to see that you are repairing it yourself.
Runs all the time. Why?
The pressure switch should cut off the compressor when cut-out pressure is reached. If however, there is a leak, or the reed valves /gaskets in the head/piston are faulty, the pressure will not build up enough to shut off. With the compressor running, spray soapy water on all fittings including around the head and drain valve. If no leak is found and pressure only builds to less than 50psi suspect reed valves. 2060p only pumps 3 to 4 lbs
You will need to check the cylinder for scarring (deep vertical grooves or depressions in the cylinder) and also the piston rings for damage. Sometimes you need to shine a flashlight behind the piston and look down the cylinder to see if there is any wear. If you are only getting 3-4 lbs of pressure your piston is not pumping therefore I would think that the air is just blowing by the piston. Also check your connecting rod and wrist pin. Sometimes the bearing will blow out and not make the rod go completely up and down. Does the motor sound like it is bogging down at all? Make sure you drain all oil and remove the crankcase cover to inspect for any damage. Post back with any questions, I will monitor this post.
WON'T RESTART
The reset button used on Bostitch is the type that cuts out when motor is too hot to safely run. You must wait till system cools a bit before the reset button will reset. May be a good idea to solve overheating problem before replacing reset. It is always best to connect the compressor directly to the outlet instead of using an extension cord. If it is already connected directly to plug, insure that the outlet is capable of delivering amps needed for your compressor. When the compressor reaches rated pressure and shuts off there should be a small release of air from the pressure switch. This release of pressure allows the compessor to start in an unloaded state. If the compressor does not release the air in the hose the motor will not have the power to overcome the backpressure and cause the reset to open. There is a capacitor that could be at fault. The capacitor must be removed from the circuit to test. It should test within 95 percent of rated value. Generally, overheating is caused by low power. A failed capacitor is caused by low power. My Bostitch N12 won't advance nails
It could be the o-rings for the feed piston but a bad feed spring will
also cause problems. that would be the easiest place to try if you can
find a spring. Many of the parts for these are becoming NLA (no longer
available) from Bostitch. One problem they had in the feed piston area
was chipping the nose where the orign seals the piston stem. There is a
small bumper on the inside of the feed piston cap that goes bad and
allows the piston to travel to far back which slams the feeder against
the lower housing and can chip it where the piston goes through.
Have a stanley air compressor worked fine but now the air won't come through the tip of the hose even when I put it on the tire?
Talking in the past tense about compressor working fine before.

If it is, pumping the air tank full, and air not coming from the end of the hose, the end tool valve maybe jammed, or the hose plugged. (sometimes the inner lining of the hose separates from the reinforcing mesh and clogs the hose)
To test this theory, take the hose off from the tank (when no air is in the tank), start the compressor and see if the air is pumping out freely. If it is then the compressor is indeed fine.
Take the tool of the end of the hose, then reconnect the hose and restart the compressor. This will tel you if either the hose or the end tool is at fault.
