The elements do wear out from normal wear and tear, and can sometimes split in two when they do. It may not necessarily be an indication of a malfunction with the appliance. I have found them melted and burned in half in numerous cases.
NOTE: Spilling liquids on the element can also cause a failure such as this. But, this is more common with the BAKE element since it resides on the bottom of the oven where spill overs can occur.
The elements are fairly simple to replace. The following link explains how:

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:
searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com
Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need.
If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

What does E1 F1 mean?
Hello & Welcome to FixYa
Error code F1-E1 is displayed due to electronic oven control failure and the only way to solve this problem is by replacing the control board which is bad. Sorry for the bad news but hope you understand... Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Oven door came off. how do I put back on?
Hi, W/D here.
Open the hinges about 30 degrees, and open the locking latches that are on the hinges. Slide the door on the hinges and set the locking latches. Done!

I am getting E0 -F2-
Shorted keypad (also called touch pad)
1. Check keypad connector for firm connection (keypad connects to control board).
2. Press CANCEL. If error code returns after 60 seconds, replace keypad (also called touch pad or membrane switch). Some models incorporate keypad in to control board as one unit. In this case, replace control board (also called ERC or clock).

Hot burner indicator light won't
It sounds like the heat sensor which is next to the hotplate beneath the glass is faulty. The contacts of the sensor sound like they are stuck together.

Electric went out and when
The digital timer needs to be set to the manual mode for the oven to work. If the timer is lit then play with it until it goes back to manual. Turn the oven on and keep an eye on the indicator light. When it lights the timer is on manual. If the timer is out and not working you may need to get a new digital timer. This is a problem which occurs from time to time.

Cooking time button - does the oven shut itself
I assume you are talking about an electronic or manual timer. Either timer will turn the oven off after the time expires. These timers must be in automatic mode and not manual mode before they will do this.

My whirlpool bottom element does not work . the
Make sure cook had it set to bake, not broil (broil on runs top element), renters often forget that . First turn off electricity to the stove, breaker or fuse. I always confirm its off by trying a burner, doesn't heat in 30 seconds confirmed off.
Element loops from the back wall, held up by a little standard.
Usually there is a small screw under where the element goes into the back wall on each side, there is a little metal plate there that the screw holds down, remove the screw and plate and pull out element a little bit and will see where wire has a slip on connector onto element, slip those off, carefully unsnap little support (like clips to it) or unscrew from oven bottom. Then go to appliance parts dealer. Not appliance repairman but every time I did this it was always nearly the same exact way.
