I have a Jenn-Air electric
Hi, the house wiring is really old. You will have to use the black and white wires for 220. They should be connected to the breakers. The ground wire goes to the grounding bar in the breaker box.
At the outlet, you will need a compatible socket to your 4-wire plug on the oven (I'm assuming you are using an outlet and cord). Connect the white and black wires to the outer blades of the socket and the ground wire to BOTH center posts.
On the oven, use the installation instructions, if you have them. Basically the red and black are the 220, the white is 110 return and the green/copper goes to ground. See picture below for example. At least your oven will be wired properly if you ever move to a house that's up to code, or if you decide to upgrade your current wiring to new standards. Please let me know if you have more questions and thanks for using FixYa.

How do you clean the trough in the middle?
Hello- You can put the filter in the dishwasher. The trough can be difficult to clean, I would use something that's not too sudsy, like Citra Solv or any degreaser. Just use a sponge or rag. If there is a lot of build-up you can scrape-up the grease with a plastic putty knife. Once it is clean just turn the vent on to dry it so any water left over will not cause the pan to rust. Hope this helps, best regards.
I have a Garland commercial electric range.

Jenn air electric range wiring diagram
In a normal house, black and red are the hot wires and are wired to a circuit breaker or fuse at the panel box. White goes to the ground bar. Sometimes the white(neutral) is seperated from the ground. Sometimes they can be connected together. At the fuse box they both go to the silver ground bar. If you are attaching a cord and plug purchase one to match the outlet you have. Usually at the terminal block the hot wires are on the outside. Neutral in the middle. At the terminal block there is a metal strap or wire going from the center terminal to the frame of the stove. If the cord you have is just 3 wires leave it. If the cord you have uses 4 wires remove the strap and connect it seperately to the green or ground wire on the cord.
Do i connect the red and black wires together
No you do not. You have a 220 system. What you do to hook it up is. In the box in the wall you should have 3 wires. 2 black and one white. Then on the cooktop you have the 3 wires 1 black, 1 red, and 1 white. You take the black from the cooktop to the black in the wall box. Take the red to the other black in the wall box. then take the whites and put them together. Now if you have a green or bare wire that is the ground. Just hook that to the wall box.
