We have a jenn air

Hi, depending on your local electrical code:and I see that the unit is 240 Volts A.C., then RED=Power/Black=POWER(L1 & L2)/WHITE="N"Neutral/and GREEN=SAFETY GROUND,on the new unit, then use from the wall power BLACK = L1 and White= L2. then on the unit RED=L1 and BLACK=L2(either way you hook these 2 up there isn't a polarity issue on these 2 wires) on the units hook-up/then use the BARE supply wire as neutral and tie BOTH WHITE and GREEN from the unit together to this BARE wire..

Take care

Hi.

In theory the parts from the two models should not be swapped by the user, as the manufacturer gave different parts number for most of the C228 and Jed8230 parts.

In practice some of the switches are the same size, and do the same thing, if they are not even the same part with different part number.

I am sure that the fan switch, for example, can be swapped.

I cannot tell you from here, and without testing that parts with different numbers can be swapped. This for safety and professional reasons, as manufacturer did not list the parts for the two different models as same.

Here diagrams and part list for both models, I am sure that this can help a lot in taking the decision.

The Grill side on my electric cooktop doesnt seem heat up enough

I had the same problem with the 45" Jenn Air downdraft cook top. The installation of the ductwork from the stove to the outside of the house was not properly installed. The stove is appr 18' from an outside wall and the flow of air was hampered by
too great a bend in the ductwork at the point below the stove on the underside of the house and the pipe going to the outside wall. I believe that was corrected with more curve in the vent work, making for a smoother flow of air. Make sense?

My fan came on and

Please check your on - off switch. You can do this with a volt ohm meter or if you dont have one, with a test light available at good harware stores everywhere.

If it went on and will not go off - it has to be a problem with the switch.

Stove not on - but fan comes on automatically -

it sounds as if the thermostat is broke. it could be the two wires off the thermostat are after melting together. ( burning smell). the thermostat stops power going to fan when it sences below a certain degrees. but your one has been cut out of the circuit due to the two cables melting together. this means fan will constantly stay on. you need to find and replace thermostat and make sure no cables melted together. if they are then seperate and use insulating tape to re insulate.make sure circuit breaker is off while doind this

After fan is on for awhile the motoe feels hot to

That is because small motors like this are very inefficient.

Almost everything in nature that has inefficiency throws off energy as heat.

The motor is probably throwing off 100 watts of waste heat total, which compares to the heat of a 100 Watt light bulb, so getting hot is not surprising.

My daughter wants to replace an old electric

Hello. The good news is that the power is already there for the old cook top. What she will find however is that the old cook top may be hardwired where as the new slide in range will require a receptacle mounted to the wall. This is 220 volt electricity so my recommendation is to have an electrician do this part of the job. That said, if you get back to me I will talk you through any and all parts of this job safely. Typically, depending upon your locale, the cost of having an electrician do this work is in the 100-250 range depending on how many trips are required to get it all done. Regarding the wall oven, once again, you are dealing with 220 volts. Be sure to turn off the circuit breaker, or remove the correct fuse, before doing any work.

My new home already has a hood vent for the range.

The poupose of either is to eliminate any smoke created by the range or grille and move as much of the cooking odors to the outside. I wouldn't use both at the same time, but if the hood is vented to the outside, it would be just fine to use only the hood. Aregular cleaning will be necesssary. The downdraft has limits as to the distance it will efficiently exhaust air. Flex hose should not be used. And excessive bends or vent length, cuts into the efficiency.

WHAT DO I USE TO CLEAN AN ELECTRIC JENN-AIR

a good product is CERAMABRYTE. it is designed for ceramic cooktops and is a white lotion type cleaner. if there is a lot of burned buildup you may also need to purchase a special scraper with a blade in it. but make sure you smear the cleanser on FIRST or you will scratch the surface.
